BMW motorcycles have been washing up on the coast of Devon as the stricken MSC Napoli drops its cargo into the sea.

Someone here in the US is going to be real unhappy this spring when they don't get there bike. BMW has been having customers order bikes. That way you only get the options you want. If you can get your hands on a new f800st I'll pay the freight across the pond

I'll bet Lloyd's of London is having a coronary at the moment, since they are probably insuring the cargo of a UK-Flagged Merchant Vessel. I've spent time on two different container ships, must be a pretty eerie feeling to see the boxes go over the side.

The second bit of bad news to hit BMW this past year.

(the first was that Triumph now outsells them here in the U.S.)

At THIS rate, I give those "poor" teutonic brothers of ours five years TOPS before some Chinese concern bails 'em out of their misery and purchases them.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I love this quote from the CNN Story :

"People should be able to be allowed to take what they like. It is clearing up the beach, and it is part of the beach culture,"

I like that, I saw a lot of things I liked on the beach back when I lived in San Diego and would have liked to take a lot of it. Not sure my wife would have approved however

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I saw a late night news bulletin on TV half an hour ago and there was footage of a truck escaping the scene with a salvaged BMW 1200 LT on the back.

I can see the customized number plates (tags) now ... "FINDERS KEEPERS".

About the only way I'd ever own a BMW would be to find one on the beach. Not that I have anything againt the bikes. It's the price tags that hang from them that I find offensive.

The percentage you're paying is too high-priced While you're living beyond all your means And the man in the suit has just bought a new car From the profit he's made on your dreams

Looks like Ray & Grzegorz are the only members in Britain who aren't at the beach right now!

Oneijack,

I have had an R1100RT for the past 10 years. I have always felt that the price tag was well worth it (for the machine ... not poser value which does not interest me in the least) as I have toured the bike up and down Europe (including the UK) and right down to the Middle East on numerous occasions.
I feel I owe it a lot.

Wouldn't think one could register one of those bikes.

I agree with Lonzo. I can't see how one could ever (legally) register the stolen BMWs without holding title. I suppose parting them out is the plan?

In the UK you apply for the title to DVLA, but I should imagine you would need some sort of paperwork to say what it is. They will of course be ways round this. Why could this ship of not been dumped on the coast of Fleetwood, I would have a garage full of BMW's by now, cars parked in the street at the back etc etc...
