Since I have tires on my brain these days...I noticed you can get motorcycle tire changing equipment from HarborFreight for around $110 (2 pieces, $49.00 and 59.00). Guess you still would need someone to balance it. 4strokes review of Tire ChangerWonder what the payback would be? Suppose a local shop would do it for around $20???

If you have other riding buddies, you collectively change the tires for free. My best friend owns a tire changing station, and we've gone through three sets of tires for the speedmaster, one for his wife's volusia, and one rear tire for another friend's BMW.

I can't remember where I saw it (online), but there is a bead removal bar available that has a nylon insert. It prevents buggering up the edges of the rims as you r&i the tires. Maybe someone else will have the info and post it here....

People balance their own. I use a truing stand, seen pics of guys using 2 level sawhorses with their wheel resting on an axle between.

Well the HarborFreight tire changer is on sale for $80.00 total so a riding friend and I will split the cost since we are both changing our tires before the riding season starts. Here is another link describing in DETAIL with hints on how to use the equipment. Tire Change Details w/photos *Note: the harborfreight is one interesting store. I visited one in Cincinnati and I have never seen so many tools/gadgets. I can see myself spending some serious $$$ there.

Definitely buying one of those this weekend. I tried to change my rear last Saturday with only a couple of tire irons. After 1/2 hour, ran down to nearest shop before they closed. $30.00 mount and balance, off the bike.

That looks like my next tool in the garage! Great one! Thanks. It will pay for itself in a year with two bikes in the garage.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Might as well add "tire changing marathon" to this year's Noreaster agenda now...

That looks like a nice addition to the garage. I'm adding that to the list of tools I want.

I sure could use a garage too Some day when I get a house... I'll come weld stuff at your place, and you can come change your tires at mine.

that looks like a pretty good tool. Ive changed ,I dont know how may tubes and tires on dirt bikes and its always a challenge. Usually end up scratching the rims a bit as well. I might buy that tool for the dirt bike tires but leave the tire changing for my Triumph to the dealer. They have a pretty fancy machine over there.

Take a class. I want to also. I did a wee bit of welding in college, but never Mig. I think it is a good skill to have.
