Looking at the Triumph website am I right to assume that the new 2007 Bonneville America is now only available with cast wheels, not spoked any more?

That really sucks!! I like the spoked wheels giving the bike a traditional older look to it, and if you wanted alloys you simply bought the Speedmaster.

Looks like they also got rid of that little fake tool box at the passenger foot peg, and redesigned the sproket cover giving it some shine. At least those were good ideas...

The better idea was to put the tubeless Metzler tires on the America that the SM has enjoyed the last 3 years. They stick like glue, even on wet pavement, and have other obvious benefits, being tubeless. (You can plug one in a pinch, and they are not likely to "blow out" without fair warning of an obvious problem beforehand.)

They just took the lazy old , (but good looking) America, and made a sport cruiser out of it like the SM is. Except for the bars and riding position, the two are now geared alike, share the same power plant (again), and share the better tires.

Ride it like you stole it!

Good points but I also like the wider tires as well. Looking forward to bike week in March to check out all the new Triumphs!

Shame they dont weld the spokes on the outside of the rim like the off road BMW's. They use tubeless tires and the spoked wheels.

I bought an 06 rather than 07 for a couple reasons I like the spoke wheels and the non blackened engine. The engine is supposed to be bigger 865 rather than 790. I guess Its all about compromises....

While the engine is bigger, it is so badly detuned to make it run cleaner that it will cost you a pretty penny to get as much power from it.

Nope dont like the wagon wheel at all, for me one of the decideding factors between America and Speedmaster was the spoked wheels. Figure if I get a case of "engine envy" someday, I'll shell out for a big bore kit.

It looks like somone at Triumph said "The America is too pretty. What can we do to uglify it a bit."

Ah I hadn't noticed that before. So they now both have the same size and same coloured engine.

So really the only difference between the Speedmaster and America is the style of the alloy rims, handlebars and seating.

Why on Earth would they move to make the bikes even more similar? I wonder if the price has gone up compared to the 2006.

actually the pics of the '07 show more chrome on the america than the speedy and don't forget about the tach, pipes, and additional front rotor on the speedy. Minute differences for sure though. I bet it just means that the 1400 "speedy" will be coming soon to make the big difference between the two.
'06 Speedy all the way!! But then I'm a little partial..

Black '06 Speedmaster, BUB of course.

I have it from a reliable source that Triumph will intorduce a 1400 cc verticle twin in 2013, However., the same source tells me the world will end in 2012.

Hey, now, I like my '07 America!

And I like the alloy wheels! It must be an age thing - I'm 24 and love the alloy wheels whereas my Dad is 52 and loves the spokes on his '06.

Well I kind of liked the way you previously had a choice. If spokes were your thing then the American was for you, or if alloys are your preference then more than likely the Speedy was for you. Now there seems to be no choice...

I still like the look of the new America (especially the new blue/cream paint scheme), but the plans to build a sweet custom bobber out of one, would now need to be applied to an '06 or earlier bike rather than brand new, which is a shame. Not the end of the world, just a shame.

I perfer the spokes, but the alloy wheels will be a whole easier to keep clean.

Overall I like it, but I'm partial to my 06.

You know, that just might be part of Triumph's marketing plan to get some younger riders on Triumph's.

I actually think the America is perfect. I've had two sport bikes and decided to move to a cruiser partly because I'm sick of speeding tickets, partly because I've outgrown the look would rather have comfort, and partly because I don't want to be identified with those jackasses who pop wheelies up and down the interstate.

Anyways, when I started looking last fall I had a lot of trouble deciding between TBA and SM. Like the spoke wheels and bigger engine of SM, hated the seat and black engine. Luckily everything on the TBA I didn't like got changed for '07!

I am still torn back and forth on the second brake rotor up front on the speedmaster. I'm not sure how much of a difference one notices, or if its worth the cash to add it to my TBA...

Thought it was just me.... just I'm refusing to get old.

I love the spokes. Hate cleaning them but when I take the time and effort, they look the business.

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

If I'm not mistaken, Triumph has actually reduced the prices for 2007. Or, at least the Speedmaster MSRP has gone down, maybe the America stayed the same.

I think it's $7999 for black and $8199 for two-tone, and the delivery fees went to like $400 if I remember right?

I like spokes but not tubes. I like the SM alloys but not sure about the new wheels on either, guess I would have to see them in person. Prefer the blacked out motor, though I do like black and crome together. The seats for the rider are the same as far as I am concerned. After putting some milage on both I definately prefer the dual discs up front. The ergos of the speedy fit me better, though that is easily changed. I so far prefer the 790cc, though I have not done many miles on an 865. Of course there is no comparison with the tires. Even though I have an SM I agree they should have kept the spokes on the BA.

Surprised to hear that, Peter. Wonder what kind of road surface, or temperatures were in play, although it has never seemed to matter much to me. I realize they all can be a little slippery on wet road, especially just after a fresh rain after it has been dry a while. I felt my rear slipping and sliding as I made a couple of turns last weekend, and have before, too, but overall the Metzlers inspire me with enough confidence that I don't let the wet detere me much.

Be careful ot there.

Hi Keith
this is a Babelfish -translation

rear one has everyone its own impressions with the tyre, the one means natural thus on wet roads is this, the other one again another mark to favor to have. For me is the Bridgestone - tyre in Punkto longevity, kurvenverhalten, wetness behavior the better alternative...

Let me take a stab....

1) "For me the Bridgestone is a serviceable tire, as it relates to wear and traction under various road conditions. Your results may vary".

Or

2) "We just ran out of the special, would you care to order something else off the menu?"
