Just talked to the local (although crappy) Triumph dealer about an igniter cable (the one going from Ignition Coil to Spark Plug), and the parts counter goob tells me it's $91 freaking dollars!!! "Say what, I should cut off a testicle if I want a flat washer, you say?" Ok, I can almost stomach parting with $48 for 4 liters of oil, but $91 for an 8 inch spark plug wire! Come on, got to be a mistake! Anyone out there with one of those cool Parts Catalogues that can look up the part number for me, as I suspect he was giving me the price for the Ignition Coil, or a wiring harness (God I hope so!!!) Thanks in advance!!

From the fische:
Ignition cable, 2 Cylinder #T1290000

It's just a set of plug wires, holy crap, you should be able to swap pretty much any off of another bike without a problem. In fact you can buy the wire at an autoparts store and even make your own in a pinch. I think the only important part would be the plug caps themselves (the long hard bakelite part). They are Bosch parts, says so right on them, and maybe that rusty old VW bettle out in your backwoods has some that will fit?

Just an addition to the above along with an "Ummmm?"
My fische also lists the coils as "Ignition Coil (3 Cylinder) wtf? and the "Ignitor, 2 CYL, 8000rpm" Maybe youz BA guys can up your rev limiter with this part?

By the way, the above ignition cable part is for (1) one only!! It is not a set.

Now's your chance to get some cool looking blue ones too?
The Harley Botiques that actually sell motorcycle parts may have what you need for a lot less.
$92, and that's for ONE!!! So it's $180 a pair? I think they can go fornicate themselves. I will stop at my dealer over the weekend (wed/thur) and see what they have to say.

Hey Greg,

I am curious why you need them. What did you do, get freaky with some cutters?

Hi Greg, When I called Big4Cycles last month, they said $95.00. Ouch. They also wanted to charge me way too much for a $129.00 Ignition coil. Only after I told them that I could get one for that price elswhere did they succumb. However, you have already called around. What is up with the prices? The Ignition Coil says for a three cylinder too but it is indeed the right part.

I'm with Phil in asking what do you need one for?

Well, ok, truth be known, I just can't stand the thought of Pat being faster than me with his big bore Wiseco kit, so I've been fabbing up an extra pair of cylinders to give me a parallel 4!! We'll see who's your daddy now Pat!! Ha ha!!

Nah, when I was doing the valve clearance check this weekend, I removed both Igniter Cables and the left side Ingition Coil to remove the Cam Cover, just like always, without problem. Well, when I was putting the right side Igniter cable back into the terminal well for the Ignition Coil, the terminal just collapsed into the boot, folded up like a cheap piece of tin foil!!! I straightened it back out, and closed up the terminal so it would hold firmly on the Ignition coil terminal, but it felt pretty flimsy when I straightened the terminal out (it is only copper or brass), and I can just picture this little sucker failing as we're rolling through the mountains in May. So I figured, should be able to get one from the dealer, and then they hit me with that nonsense. I guess I'll leave it for now. I'm pulling the cam cover back off this weekend to remeasure the valves with my trusty new feeler gage, but this time I'll just remove the whole Ingition coil and cable as a single piece. Not taking chances! Just sucks that they are gouging us that bad for a spark plug cable!!! OH, another dealer near Columbia, SC says about $70 for a pair, so we know where I'll be taking my business if I do decide to pony up the money.

Hi Greg,

Like Pat stated above, you can always make some yourself. There is nothing special about these and there's no way they should cost almost $200 a pair. The only thing you have to match up is the wire diameter so it will still fit the coil. That end that you crushed can be replaced with something appreciably stronger also. As fas as the boots go, they are not unique either.

Shoot, maybe I should make some up and sell them for $50 a pair!!

Phil,
I've saved the link he sent me (for an MSD Plug wire kit) to my favorites, may just go ahead and spend the $24 and get a set. Would be nice if I could find the same from Accel or similar, but I think MSD is a good name if I'm not mistaken...

That would be sweet, some red wires:) Gives a little splash of color to dress up the engine. I think I'm watching too much TLC on weekends...

Ben, judging by the number of posts, do you even remember where the TV is. You need to back away from the computer, at least once a day dude!

You should be able to get any wire set, you can reuse some of the parts the spark plug end unscrews from the wire,Just give it a few turns and its off,The only problem I have found is getting the small end that goes in the coil not your common size much smaller on your bikes I know that's a rip-off for the wire cause I broke off the end that goes into the coil but I soldered it back before I spend $100 on a 6" wire Good luck

I noticed the crimp tool for the MSD wires is a $64.29 item. Is there a suitable substitute out there that's cheaper, but it still able to do a quality job? This sounds like a tool that could be added to the BA.com toolbox that can be passed around like the holesaw.

They provide a stripper/crimper with the kits.

That $64.29 is the 'pro' version. Do not try this at home!!

Wow, I gotta really wonder what this stripper looks like. She can't be all that good looking, if they're givin her away with the plug wire set... Definitely a double-bagger!!! I'll bring her to Georgia with me! She can hang with Yota!

Well, got the MSD cables, but not sure I can use them. The Coil end terminal looks about 2mm in diameter too big for our Terminals on the Coil. I'm going to contact MSD and see if they have something different that is closer to our size.

Hold your plug's coil end in front of a metric ruler, photograph it then send that off to them. I once sent a photo of the machined error on the corbin brackets as the corbin brackets were layed on top of the oem brackets. They never even wrote back, I received new brackets in no time. You got a camera son, use it!

Moe, already measured the terminal inner diameters and sent an e-mail off to MSD direct. Waiting on an answer, but nothing yet...
