I'm about to install my finisher (finally after having it sit on the shelf for 1 1/2 yrs) and I was wondering after I clean the sticky tape off the back and apply some RTV to it do I need to hold it in place somehow (tape it on) while it sets.

I used black (270) RTV, held in place over night with painter's masking tape - hasn't budged in a year.

Definitely throw some tape on it in an X pattern. Do it with the motor cold and let it sit overnight. Did mine this way and you would have to pry it off now.

Jim,
Mine fell of several times before I finally cleaned all the sticky gorilla snot off the back. Then I stuck it on with a small circle of the red RTV about 1" in from the outer edge. Not a problem since.

Silicone stickum stuff in a toothpaste like tube.
Dries to a pliable yet firm consistency.
Great stuff, like glue but better.
I also call it liquid duct tape.

OK, after you mount it on the shiny chrome clutch cover...can you get it to polish to match the shine?? I just mounted mine last weekend and am disappointed in the difference in finish color. It is much duller than the beautifully polished clutch cover.

I'm not sure if you can polish it without taking the word TRIUMPH off with it.

I bought one from Brent at newspeedmaster.com, and it is beautiful. It might have a better shine than the engine cover! However, I did notice that the directions did not include what to do if the aftermarket risers I installed took all of the slack out of the clutch cable, even in the forward position. Had to figure that one out my self with the help of my little friends hops and barley.

Ride Safe.
