Knowing that quite a few of us have had front disc warping issues, mainly with the America/ spoked rims, I've noticed that the new 2007 865cc America range, like the Speedmaster, now comes with alloy rims.
Still single disc, but presumably a more rigid rim will better house the disc and make it less susceptible to warpage? I don't know, I'm no engineer but am guessing this might be Triumph's answer to the problem?
Some of us have done mods to improve bike's performance, possibly this has caused too much strain front braking with the original setup hence Triumph's decision to fit a cast rim on their 865cc range?
As I say I don't really know but I'm still having issues with my front disc and am thinking maybe this is the way forward. Any thoughts?

I was talking to one of the blokes down at my local dealer the other day, and he seems to think that the change in wheels maybe something to do with the issue of spokes breaking - apparently MCN had a bee in their bonnet about them!

47800km and no warpage OR spoke breakage - even when I bounced off a traffic island at 50kph.

The alloy wheels might actually reduce disk warpage, but I'd say it'd be more coz of better heat transfer to the mag wheels than because of a more solid mount. Easiest way to warp disks is to overheat them.

The spoke breaking issue has been strictly with the Bonnies, from what I've read on the net the last few years. They even have a dedicated sub forum about it on the Delphi Bonnie forum.

There have been Speedmasters with warped rotors, so it just isn't an America only problem. But the Speedmasters also have a different rim for 2007, so you could be right.

My guess is that Triumph replaced the Spoked wheels with cast alloy to save money on parts and service labour?

I love my spoked wheels so am glad I got the 05 model, my front disk is still straight also

I prefer the spoked rims too but would happily fit alloys if it's going to solve the warping issue. Onto my third disc in only 10,000 mile (which is also starting to warp BTW) and non the wiser why it's happening. Adey must be onto his 17th by now?
Dealer thinks rim could be out of alignment but that's only a hunch. Anyway I might fit these new rims and get the current one sent away for checking, then I could have alloys for the Winter and spokes for the Summer, job's a good un

It would save you some money and almost certainly solve the warping problem if you get the floating disk kit from Brent. And, you would be able to keep the more proper wire wheels.

I'd thought of fitting the floating disk system in the past but someone advised me that I might still get the same problem if the rim/ disk housing's not true... so it kind of put me off. Anyway, today I decided to order one and see what happens. Hopefully it will solve the problem, I'll get to keep the spokes and as you say it is a cheaper option.
Thanks,
Dave.
