Shouldn't worry too much about it - in the 3 months I spent travelling around Australia, I only saw 1 wild one!!

Thing had to be sombodys pet, no zoos or anything like that around here. Article in different paper says that, When she called her insurance company, they thought it was a crank call, and reminded her that such calls are illegal.

Jack - Be careful up there. The roo is a natural for your climate. Its one of the few animals that has a place to keep his hands warm. If they start to breed they'll be everywhere in N.E.

Go ahead laugh, but any good tree hugger will tell you the havoc an introduced critter can cause to an ecosystem, Ask an Aussie about cain toads.

I work about a 20 minute ride from the centre of Brisbane (capital city of Queensland - population 1.6 million, for those who don't know) in an area that still has a few square miles of bushland. This is a shot looking out the back door on a typical morning in one of the houses I work in.
As you can see, there's still one or two wild ones left. Like deer, it's not the ones you see at 70mph you've got to worry about... it's the ones you don't see.

Yes kangaroos are a hazard and as you can see from the quote ive copied from my local paper in Adelaide one guy was not so lucky. This only happened on the 26th december and when i heard the news i freaked as one of my fellow riding buddies live in said town. As per sandmans reply and pictures mt pleasant is only 70 km from major city centre and they have been seen on the citys fringe.
"On Saturday, a 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he hit a kangaroo between 9.30am and 11.30am on the Mount Pleasant to Tungkillo road near Mount Pleasant. Operation Santa Safe continues until January 28.--AAP " Its still freaky to hear of one in the states.could be one of those conspiracy theorise like roswell!!!!!
Always ride with care be 100% switched on.

Contrary to popular opinion, I can exist outside of urban areas!!
Part of my trip involved a 3 day outback trip around Uluru (Ayers rock) and sleeping out under the stars in a canvas sleeping bag - still only managed to see one wild Roo though!
However, I did manage to eat some curried Skippy while in Alice Springs - proabably tastes like chicken, but hard to tell in the curry!

Matt, it appears from the pic that they are being fed. That's one way to keep them coming!!

OK, what's the difference between a wallaby and a 'roo, since the story says it was a wallaby? A personal pet.

Don't know if I fall in the tree hugger camp, but invasive plants are indeed wreaking havoc in this country, changing broad landscape ecosystems. It's a big deal, called the "silent wildfire", in many respects coming in under the public awareness radar .

Roo tastes like cr@p... there's a reason it was curried... same as there's a reason we don't eat it ourselves - we just feed it to tourists.

Yep, we're in the middle of a once in 100 year drought right now and that place keeps a bucket of water out for the roos, and they sometimes feed them stale bread. We're technically not supposed to, but the roos don't complain.

Grey roos grow to about 5' tall and red ones to about 6'6"... wallabys are a different species that look like mini kangaroos, they only grow to about 1'6".

So if the rugby Wallabys changed their name to the much physically bigger Kangaroos, then maybe they'd have a decent scrum?
