Looks good, but I gotta wonder how effective it'd be in a crash... helmets are designed to self destruct instead of your head doing so.. I kinda think that one'd be more like a sheild that'd end up transferring the forces to your skull. Mind you, I've not read anything about them, just guessing.

Matt, I agree with most of what you said. It looks good but I'm skepitcal on it's ability to absorb shock. The best helmets absorb the most shock helping to keep your brain from severe concussion. As for helmets being made to self destruct, I'm not sure that's a true statement. You want them to give on impact but stay intact for the most part. You can't use them anymore because the helmet structure has been compromized.

I like it! Very Rocketeerish styling.

I have a Cromwell Hurricane imperiale (blue/silver with gold stripes) and it is really good looking. A bit tight for my sizing-I got an XL and I have a 24" circumference head or 61cm. Too tight! Sizing chart is wrong IMHO. Should have an XXL? I wish it fit better. It covers only about 1/2 of your head from top down-the shield hits my nose when fully lowered. Not the best helmet for me. No safety rating? I put a quick click strap deal on it because the stock one that came on it is rather difficult. A company called GENO (also Italian) made metal (aluminum I think) helmets many years ago-my cousin had one. I did not know this Cromwell was Stainless steel!! Seems OK but I do not want to test it. In Sum-Very pretty but no known safety testing-that leaves this helmet like unsafe sex-good luck. It is a shelf monster in my office-anybody wanna buy it??

I'd love to get some kind of cool retro helmet, like the ROOF boxer, but nobody makes them big enough for my noggin.

Thanks for the review! I too have the same size 'noggin as you, so I appreciate the sizing feedback. Chances are I'd have to go mail order, as no one out my way stocks this helmet for fitting. Looks like XXL for me (if/when) I want to spend the dough on the green/silver Hurricane.
Regards,
Tom

The Cromwell is apparently not SS but thermoplastic resin stuff?? and is safety approved by someone-possibly the BSI? Cant remember but I read it somewhere.

My Cromwell Hurricane is not stainlesss steel-also it is approved by BSI at least as far as manufacturing is concerned. It has a thick styrofoam liner and appears to be a quality built item. I like it.
