Recently I sold my Triumph flyscreen to a rider that could probably benefit from it more than I did. At 6 foot 2 inches it took a lot of wind off my chest but created head buffetting for me. It's a great quality screen for the right person. After almost a year I realized it just wasn't for me.

Now I'm looking for a windscreen that I can use on long highway rides, is easily removable and looks good.

I like the removability and quality of the Windvest, but it's pricey. Some of the small National Cycle screens look great, but will they fit on the bike? Are there other screens out there that are big enough to block the wind but that I see OVER and not through.

And more important, how will I know?????

Any suggestions?

one smallish, inepensive screen is the slipstreamer viper ss10. under $100, not obtrusive, and quite effective.

one thing to note: in my experience a screen can be only an inch or so below your sightline and you hardly notice it after a while.

Hey, Kevin. Well, I have the Windvest 16" (smoke)...and love it. Call them up and see if they'll offer one for less then the website price.

I'm 6'2" and see right over the top of it...no helmet buffeting...still get wind (sides, bottom, etc) but it is much reduced.

Brad, thank you!
What kind of a difference would it be to the 14 inch version?

Bill, I hadn't seen the Slipstreamer line, cool.
Does anyone have a picture of one on your bike? Thanks!

The 14" screen was just low enough to get a good bit of helmet buffeting...I tested one out before moving to the 16"...but it still blocked wind pretty good.

Forget the 16 x 16...unless they've changed the hardware...it hits the brake resevoir.

I just purchased a Givi 405 smoke to replace my Viper. I think it works and looks better. I'll have pictures once the Holiday madness passes.

I'm a hair over 6' tall. I bought the Triumph Summer Screen which looked good but put the worst of the buffeted wind right in my face. I then tried the 16" WindVest. It looked good on the bike but the clean air space behind it was too small. You can adjust it a number of ways to move the clean area around but it was designed to mount on the handlebars not extended to put it behind the speedo like on our bikes. I returned it and then started working with ClearView on coming up with a replacement Summer Screen that was taller. I have the 17" lightly smoked (which looks more transparent than clear). They now even have an 18" available. They cost around $140. but you need the Triumph mounts. Looks and works the best of any I've tried.

I've got my eye on this lowwider by rifle. Rifle LowWider

But I've hesitated because I am awaiting a test of the '07 Tiger.

Oh yeah, the Memphis Shades Alley Cat looks good and works great. That's what I currently use.

Tom (Iceman), glad it worked out. I haven't tried the 18" Clearview yet, but prefer to go with the smallest shield that works well. The more I look at the Clearview, the more it looks like what Triumph should have had available in the first place.

Do any of these windshields require movement of the turn signals?

Try the Medium 17" Clearview fist, unless you are very tall. I tried the 18" tall and sent it back to get the 17" medium. I am 5'11" with a tall torso and short legs, if that helps.

I'm going with Ryan on this one. I have a 19" Memphis Shades Fats and lowers. I have had the windscreen in every conceivable position, along with the lowers and the buffeting is horrendous. The buffeting coming from below can be nearly eliminated if I position my lowers to restrict air flow to engine........ NO!!!
I've heard great things about the WindVest. I've ridden a friend's bike (Suzuki Marauder) with the windvest. It takes all the pressure off your chest, but above 75mph, everything else seems to get hammered.
I am trying the GIVI A620 next. The A600 looks good, and the A602 would be great if you don't mind the black edging.
TwistedThrottle has the best online prices I've found. Here's GIVI's website.

I have a Memphis fats with Suzuki Marauder mounts on a SPeedmaster. It's my 3rd shield. The lowers are mounted at a close 1/8th" gap or less between the lowers and upper screen. I can see over the top of the screen by two to three inches. I have no wind or head buffeting at all, up to 100 MPH.

I had a great deal of head buffeting with the Memphis Fats until I put the lowers on. Perhaps the secret to success with the Memphis Fats is the lowers placement? Why that is, I couldn't tell you, but others have reported the same.

If it matters, I moved the driving lights forward on angle irons, as opposed to cutting the shield.

The Givi looks like an elongated flyscreen. Sporty, functional, and pretty darn cheap. I am not much of a windscreen guy, so it works great for me. I am 5'11, and I have it positioned just below eye level.

I like it.

Here's an overall view on the bike. There are a couple more detailed shots in my gallery that show the details of the attachment. I think there's also a pic there of the same bike with a summer shield (nice looking but awful buffeting) and a memphis fats - I'm just a fool for plastic.

Erwin, I'm leaning toward the Slipstreamer SS-10. I'm planning on riding the bike up to Motorcycle Madness soon to see what fits. Wanna come along?

I have to admit I have the Triumph Roadster on my BA. I get so much head buffeting I think I made a mistake. It shakes so bad I can't see out of my glasses. Think a good replacement will be the ClearView just go a little taller and maybe wider. I liked my Fly screen more.

Does anyone have detailed pictures of the hardware and windshield installation. I bought the hardware for the Triumph Summer Sheild and the Clearview; however, I cannot find good pictures showing the hardware attached to the bike. Thanks

I too bought the Roadster screen and have head buffeting. I'm not sure if using lowers would help with this problem. If someone else has used this combination (Triumph Roadster screen & lowers) please chime in and let us know how they worked. One thing I can tell you is my wife really likes riding with the shield on. Without it she says she had a hard time breathing (the wind coming around me was hitting her right in the face and taking her breath away). Now if I can only find a set-up that lets me easily/quickly remove it without any tools that would be great.

I'm a 6 footer and have the summer screen. I didn't find the buffeting all that bad, however at the higher speeds I did notice it. Maybe I will look at Clearview as well.

Thanks for this post

I had the Roadster installed and had buffeting. Memphis Shades lowers seem to help. Got a large Clearview replacement and was much happier.

So I went with the Slipstreamer SS-10 Viper and I'm pretty pleased with it. It cost about $90 at a local bike shop and was available in a couple of days. Fast Eddy may be able to get it for you as well.
I liked the price and the fact that it has quick disconnects.

Before this wind screen I had only ridden with the Triumph fly screen. It was just too small for my height (6 foot 2). The Viper really takes the wind off of you, and looks pretty good doing so. The wife suggested I leave it on the bike all the time!
It makes winter riding and high speed riding much better. It was easy to install but I may tinker with the fitment. You would definitely want to use Loctite, especially on the quick disconnect screws. Since it's bar mounted and not fork mounted there is some flexing of the screen, but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

There is some minor head buffeting but so far it's a nice trade-off to the full force of the wind at speed. You may benefit if you're under my height. I added a rubber trim piece around the top edge today and it actually seemed to reduce the head buffeting a bit!

More photos are available in my album if you'd like to check it out.
