So the Holiday season is slipping into gear. And with that comes the annual viewing of TV icons including grinches, reindeer, Santa Claws and perennially youthful school children with adults that speak in brass instrument voices? To the bemusement and utter bewilderment of fellow moderators, my role model and lifelong mentor "Yukon Cornelius" reprises his role this evening. Talking reindeer and other animated characters are mere supporting cast members to the peppermintflavouredpickaxwieldingbearded scene stealer. Your all welcome to come over for a brew and popcorn, but be forwarned not to talk, or I'll politely ask you to take it outside . Merry Christmas!! So, who's the favorite of all you middle aged children out there? And remember "Bumbles Bounce!" JH

I love almost all of the Christmas shows, but two favorites. "One Magic Christmas" and a new one this year, "The Christmas Card." Of course these change like the hands on a clock.

I kind of like "Miracle on 34th St." if Santa can convince little Natalie Wood he can convince anyone.

Thanks John! The classic Grinch is on Tuesday nite, just FYI....I'm the same at my house about no talking- although I do allow singing along and speaking the script.
Remember about 6 or 7 years ago, CVS drugstore came out with little stuffed animal Rudolph characters, releasing new ones every week? I drove around for weeks like a LUNATIC collecting whichever ones I could find....I'm particularly fond of the Island of Misfit Toys characters (no surprise there).

How can ya not think the GREATEST SINGLE performance EVER put on film by anyone, EVER, NOT be on the top of anyone's list.
Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life", covers so many emotions(the hopefulness of a young man, the drudgery and disillusionment of growing older, AND the sheer extasy of refound hope) SO CONVINCINGLY, that this Holiday perenial is MY favorite, and has been since the 1960s, when I first discovered it one afternoon after returning home from school one day.
I've seen it probably 50 times, and know every line by heart, AND STILL find something new in this Frank Capra classic each and every time I watch it again.
Merry Christmas People,
Dwight

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

The best of the "Christmas Carols" is the one with George C Scott. Not shown too often.

Let's not forget Ralphie and his Red Rider Bee-Bee Gun! Eat Your Ovaltine! The other night my daughter and I watched "The Polar Express", which I hadn't yet seen....Fantastic animation, wonderful story ( I read the book every year on Christmas eve to my daughter when she was little, we'd ring the bell, sweet memories)....I clapped when Santa's sleigh took off with the reindeer who could hardly be held back!! My daughter (14 now) gave me one of her " I am terminally cool and YOU are such a DORK, Mom!" eye rolls. Fun little bonus is the Steven Tyler elf at the crazy elvish celebration at the end.

I'm not that big into the Holiday classics, at least compared to my wife I'm not. I'll watch It's a Wonderful Life, which I have on DVD, and the Burl Ives number, plus A Christmas Story, but the wife goes all out. On our DVR recorder we have 15-20 Christmas shows that will get repeated over and over in the next 2 weeks.
Her favorite is The Little Drummer Boy. I've asked her why, and she said because it involves the story of the baby Jesus, and that's what Christmas is ultimately about.
One movie I have picked up on the last couple of years is Jack Frost starring Micheal Keaton. After getting killed in a car wreck, he returns as an animated snowman to help his son deal with his death and to grow up. Doesn't hurt having Kelly Preston in it as the wife and mother.
