This is just some F.Y.I. on the amount of turns out it takes untill the idle mixture screws come out.
I tested 3 different kinds today. The "slotted head" the "D-tool head" and Brents new "Thumbscrew head" Mixture screws.
Slotted head - 11 turns and it comes out
D tool head - 12 1/2 Turns and it comes out
Brents Thumbscrew - 10 1/2 turns and it comes out
Obviously at more than 4 turns, you go up a jet size. But now you know the rest of the story... Paul Harvey... Good Day.
... yes I was bored...

The whole hole (funny) is completly threaded. I didn't realize that untill my laboratoy test. So you have to screw it all the way out.

Stupid question time...Kind-of-a hijack but on this subject....I assume I need a D-tool to take the stock screws out when I want to replace with Brent's mixture screws - correct ? Also, please remind me which way is lean vs. rich ? Looking up at the carb leaner is clockwise ???

On an 06 yes you will need the D tool. On our carbs out is richer in is leaner. Yes looking up clockwise is in/leaner.

Also. This pertains to Brents Mixture Screws (which rock by the way)
Sometimes the rubber o ring stays in the carb, It could be tricky to get it out with the carbs still in. You risk damaging the o rings. With the carbs pulled it is a piece of cake to get out. And don't use the needle either to try and get it out use a small "eyeglass" screwdriver or a paper clip.
Pat already said this, but just in case...
Put the spring on the needle then the washer then the o-ring. Then carefully put it in.

I have screws on their way to me. My bike developed a 'pop' on start-up (mentioned in a previous post)...in fact it's a pretty good little back-fire, so I'm going to lean it out a little to see if that'll cure it. Hopefully once I dial it in I won't have to keep adjusting (no major elevation changes for me).
