I like mine. It fits really nice. Their service is great. Order now, as the sooner you get to riding season, the longer the wait.

Unfortunately, the stuff in a real helmet that 'makes you look like a moron' is what would hopefully keep your brain from bruising or your skull from cracking. That moron material provides a path for the impact energy to dissipate.

About the only thing those kevlar/carbon fiber helmets may do is keep your skull in one piece. Your brain would probably be mush though. They look cool but I believe I will continue to wear my moron helmets.

Then why is it DOT approved if it doesnt have impact absorbing materials? They claim they have that and the test results to prove it. Have you proof otherwise?

$200 helmet and $4 sunglasses- go figure. In order to pass DOT, there is a minimum for thickness of padding in the hat, regardless of composition. However, that is only one side of the equation. What should be asked is, "what's the reason that all these beannie helmets don't pass SNELL?". Yes, I too wear a beannie in the summer. The truth is that NONE of the beannies will pass the pull over test of SNELL testing. When a helmet hits something, and you are moving, the friction will pull on the helmet. A beannie can be pulled right over your head and come off, or move around, or just throttle you, so when you hit the ground the second time, and yes you probably will bounce, you are a skinhead. If you are intersted in protecting your ******-ets, buy a high quality fullface helmet with a visor and a ful set of riding gear- jacket, pants, boots, and gloves. The pieces of the whole work as a system, and the effect of all is lessoned by the omission of any. If you want to look cool, get whatever cool is to you, and be aware of and accept the risk associated. There is a reason no one is allowed on the track without a SNELL helmet- think about it. On a similar tear- same for air bags- if they are so damn great, why don't race cars come with them? I'd take a chomemolly roll cage and 5 point harness over an air bag in the steering wheel anyday, but I'd look stupid sitting in my truck in traffic wearing a helmet (with the visor down...).

The one in the picture is NOT DOT! In their website, the DOT helmet has the shock absorbing liner, and it looks thicker. Check it out.

Having been an emt I can offer proof in the riders I have peeled off the streets.
Last spring I was at a bike shop and a man, maybe in his 50's walked in and said to the guy at the counter; "don't you have novelty helmets, I don't want to look stupid". There I am with my full face in hand. He asks if that is my Triumph outside. He then says "I won't wear a helmet like that, it's not cool". I responded "I gave up on looking cool when I grew up".
Now I am not saying anything about peoples choice, I still wear a pot on my head sometimes in the warm months but NOT because of the "cool factor". That is just a rediculous reason for a helmet choice.

Ahhh. the ole helmet debate raises its head once agin. Peronal choice as always.

These types of helmet are the cats meow for us no helmet law types that live in no helmet law states but are gonna ride in one that does. Light weight and on your head is all that matters in that scenario. Small footprint and easy to stow in a saddlebag or roll bag.

That is the ugliest brain bucket I've ever seen. I'd rather look like a 'moron' than wear that thing.

I agree. I'm way past the point of how I look on the bike-I want to enjoy it and survive with minimal pain.

On air bags: I was in my daughters new VW wagon this weekend. I've never seen so many air bags in one vehicle. If they all went off at once, you'd be crushed.

frank,

i have one of these helmets, and i suppose, someone on here could see a photo of me in that lid and say i look like a moron. my goal in the purchase of the headtrip lid was closest fitting, lightest weight, DOT half helmet i could find. this product actually helped me get back into wearing a helmet.

it fits well, is very comfortable and as was mentioned earlier in this thread; their customer service is excellent.

however, i have had a change of helmet-heart and now wear a ful lface helmet 95% of the time. now someone on this site could see a photo of me in the full face helmet and say i look like a moron; but as Grump reminded some of us earlier in the week, "you can't please everyone."

whatever choice you make, and no matter how many times we flog this helmet debate; just be safe above all else(please.)

My VeeDubb had 6 airbags. I figured if I got hit I could take a nap in them I just hate it when people think they don't need a seatbelt cause they have airbags! Yikes. Just asking to get catapulted out the back window or something!

weight was actually more an issue then looks. but i wont lie i like to look good (yes i know if anything ever happened i would look worse after then if i just wore a full face) but i find the helmet i have now does get heavy on all day runs and it would be nice to have something more comfortable and lighter, just seemed like these fit the bill

Mert, I agree. Their DOT helmet is a good looking helmet. Been considering one myself. I believe that they also make a white one too.

I don't worry about how I look in a helmet. I find I can not only look like a moron, but act like a moron, with or without a helmet, on or off the bike.
It's just a talent I've developed over the years....

I think the best helmet choice is one that you would wear.
No sense in buying one that looks cool if its uncomfortable and your more likely to leave it at home rather than wear it.
And if you live in a helmet free state, why spend 300 hundred on something to carry on the back of the bike.

In my opinion, a full size helmet looks much cooler then this thing. I may look like a bighead in my 3/4 Nolan but at least I feel secure. I leave the posing to the guys and gals that ride that other brand.

I bought one of these to get into a full face flip up for cheap - $140
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/vega/summit-xpv.htm
The inner pads come out very easily, and one can add or subtract filler or foam to create a custom fit. A Winter face mask / breath diverter to keep fog off the shield is available for $8, as is an electric dual lens shield for snowmobile use.

After owning one, I like it enough that I'd buy another if the need arose. It's comfortable now that I adjusted a few liner pads, and also added a quick disconnect strap buckle.

They tend to run a little small - I wear an XL Shoei, but needed a 2XL in the Vega.

The DOT Daytona helmets have a very low profile and are very reasonably priced. I love mine. http://www.daytonahelmets.com/

Armadillo !

A good friend said to me a few years ago - $5 helmet, $5 head.

I'd had the lid for a good 10 years and the inside moved independantly from the outside, I thought I looked cool, but then again, I'd rather keep what's inside my head on the inside if you know what I mean.

I have to were a helmet. My wife, after three years of working on her to get a ride, says to me honey I won't fight you on this any more but you have to wear a hemet. Been riding a crome shorty and a black full with face shield. I am going for the full face very soon. My only requirements are that I'll get the best venting available and am going white(I am done with black). Plan on spending the money to get what I want. No sense buying a helmet you won't wear.
