Started a second job at Lowes for seasonal $ and maybe benefits if I can tolerate it. I met this guy who just started doing night stock for a second job. So I asked if was for holiday money, maybe have kids. He said I have no children, not even married I need this second job to buy a Harley. Was it rude of me to laugh? I just couldn't help it.

You have to admire his drive. This guy wants to ride and is willing to work the night shift to get a bike. He deserves a standing ovation.
And instead of laughing at him, perhaps you can encourage him & steer him away from the dark side.

I would say... "Wow man, I sure wish I had 10 years to spare so I could do the same thing."

Same here, bored at work, started e-mailing local aircraft maintenance shops in the ATL, phone rang 20 minutes later, saying He!! yeah, come on down. It's only 1 day a week (Monday), but should bring home around $200 a week from the hourly rate he quoted me...Maybe a Sunday or two also...Hope it works out for me.

Yep. Not sure yet and not even sure if I am going to follow through. I really need benefits for the family though. I have been contracting on and off for a long time and like it. But my wife is now gonna freelance and she was our benefits.

I have thought about teaching a MSF class one to two times a month to help fund my addiction...riding habit. I admire the guy for putting forth the effort, but it will take him a very long time working part-time to pay for a Harley (unless he purchases a sportster). My friend is looking at a Road King and that will easily be 20k OTD once mods and taxes are added.

Just a guess, but maybe this guy just needs the cash to pay for the financing of it.
And the bling of course...
Somehow I don't see him putting dollars into a piggy bank waiting for $15,000 to add up...

He has 6k saved so far. No credit so he is saving the cash. He is looking at 30-40 hours a week overnight and going to his day job, contracting I think, at 6am for 10+ hour days. All that for a HD. I would never. If I did not have the means I would just be happy riding anything. He did not appear to be a rider though, just a biker dude who wants to show off his HD at the local bar. For the 6k he could pick up any number of low milage cruisers out there.
A friend just bought a 98 Valkyrie with 1600 miles for $5800 because he wanted something reliable to go with his HD. Found it for sale on the sidewalk at someones house. The sign said 6k. Went to look at it with him. The owner just bought it because his friends had bikes. He said he did not even put that milage on it but his nephew did. Paid cash brand new in 98.

Yikes when is that guy gonna RIDE it if he works 18 hours a day? Yow. Let me know what your hours end up being. I'll pop in and say hey. I tend to be one of those 10PM lumber run kinda guys...

That being the case, he ought to do himself a favor and see if he can even get insurance. Of course, paying cash for it no one will require insurance. At least in FL ya don't need insurance.
6K. He should consider an america or speedy.
