Reported in 12/06 Iron Horse magazine: The OCC guys are designing a bike for Triumph in 2007 to be released later. 2007? 8? Anyone heard about this?

Sometime ago I read a report that a new TV show, would give different builders a "metric" bikes to customize. Could be the new ESPN2 series, which starts in a few months. I've seen a few American Chopper shows, where "Triumph" part boxes are in the background. Should create more interest in a (1200 to 1500) mid size Triumph cruiser.

Interesting.
If it's true, I hope it's only going to be a "special edition" and not the only choice we have for a liter+ cruiser.
Some of their bikes are nice. Most are unrideable.

If Triumph were to build and eventually market it, they would have to use readily available parts and it would have to be more than just a piece of art. I can't wait to see what they do come up with.

I gotta agree. Not only do those guys have no clue about building a ridable bike, I don't think they have no clue what we would want or how to properly build a British custom.
Heck, it'll probably just end up being a basic Bonnie with Mikey's face painted on it. I bet it will be a basic Bonnie based bike. I bet that they don't use an America or Speedmaster as the base bike to modify.

I think I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt until I see the results. Also, I've liked the styling and performance of all the new Triumphs since 1991 and I don't think they'll lose their minds and market an unridable pile of junk.

they'll take one of their cookie cutter hard tail frames. Slap a Triumph 865 in it, Thow on some crome do dads ape hangers and wide rear tire, long forks skinny spoked front tire and call it done. those guys dont care if what they build is ridable, they make trailer queens and lawn ornaments.

Doubt? There is no doubt! It'll be a piece of artistic (autistic) junk like everything else these idiots turn out. There is no engineering, other than "if it breaks, make it twice as big". At least they'll use a good motor. I wouldn't let those ham fisted knuckle heads touch my Cub Cadet mower with its 15 HP Kawasaki VTwin.

The association of Triumph with OCC probably makes sense on some level, but Triumph risks alienating their core customers (us). The exclusivity of our bikes is what makes them unique. I bought my Triumph because it was not the popular "cookie-cutter" bike that everyone else had. I appreciate the heritage of the brand and the fact that when I pull up on Speedy, it is different. If I wanted to be part of the "in" crowd, I would have a Harley or a yamahondakawizuki. A relationship between OCC and one of those guys would make more sense.

I for one (in the minority here apparently) can't wait to see what they bring to the table. I love the show and thier bikes. I wouldn't buy one, too damn expensive and extremely unridable BUT if they built a reasonably priced mid sized cruiser that is ridable, why not?!? Sr. would have to be the one on the project, he likes Triumphs and is way more old school. Go for it OCC!
Black '06 Speedmaster, BUB of course.

Let's face it, guy & gals - That's usually what a chopper is. You take a perfectly good motorcycle, tear it apart, stick the engine into a useless, de-engineered frame, toss away any suspension or replace it with something that time has proven inadequate or obsolete, put a set of strangely configured bars and an uncomfortable seat on it, do some hacking of the fenders so mud and stones can hit your face and back, and you paint it up real pretty... There ya have it - a chopper - Regardless of who makes it and regardless if it's a one-off theme or a cookie cutter run of a thousand. They typically get towed around because they can't be ridden for any length of time and handle like logs on wheels. But - a BIG BUT - They are art works, even though some qualify only in the eyes of the beholder and are nice to look at and they make nice noise. So, they are popular. But in the end, they are what they are and riding is not what they're made for. So, lighten up on the Tuetuls. They give the public what it wants and manage to entertain in the process. That sells a lot of air time. And from my personal perspective - Anyone who can take air time away from 'When Sharks Attack' is OK by me.
Peace, out dawgs

I beg to differ sir... perhaps I'm old school but a chopper to me is somthing you build in your garage out of a wrecked 68 whatever and lawn mower parts.

I'll reserve judgement. Yes Moe, Larry and Curly turn out a lot of overpriced garage queens but if you look in the background of their shows you'll see some "normal" looking chops/bobs.
All things come to pass and so will the "over the top" choppers OCC and a lot of others are turning out.
I've noticed a lot of builders going back to a much smaller rear tire.
If you're going to have longevity in business you have to learn to stay one step ahead of the pack. Maybe, just maybe they give us something we will appreciate.
Let's give the Knuckleheads a chance and see what they come up with.
yuk,yuk,yuk--hmmmm remind me to kill you later--I'll make a note of it!

Arlen Ness' custom bikes have the same limitations as OCC bikes, but the Victory Vegas is a good machine. I just can't see Triumph accepting, let alone producing, a sub-standard bike. I'm also suprised at the intolerance I'm seeing, judging this bike before you even see it. If it turns out to be crap, fine, but everybody deserves a shot.

I agree with Jack here. A real "old school" chopper is one made from (several) baskets so you have something to ride. A $50,000 chopper belongs in the "oxymoron" category.

I'd like to reserve judgement until I see how it turns out. I've liked a few of OCC's choppers and hated most. I know that Paul senior has a soft spot for Triumph and likes old school so he may reign in Paul Jr on this endeavor.

I agree with the old school, but I also agree that is what a chopper was and this is what they are now. I understand that much of what you see on the show is mostly high dollar theme bikes, but that is why they got the show. They do build regular bikes but I'm not sure they can build an everyday bike. When I talked with Billy Joel this summer he told me the number one priorty on his list for OCC was a bike he could ride regularly if he wanted. That became his number one complaint, even over the mismatched paint. The bike sure did look great in person but he said it was a typical local bar cruiser, not capable of being a daily or distance rider. For $125k you think they could accomplish that.

He's pretty accessable. 30 years ago I used to go out with a girl who lived in Bayville, LI. We used to see him cruising past the beach and often times he would stop and talk to people.

Funny thing is I saw him at a bar, breakers in bayville, but he was drinking iced tea, virgin of course.
I am not personal friend or anything but I grew up a few blocks from his childhood home and went to the same school. My brother was a year behind him. Everyone in the neighborhood hungout at the "village green". I have met him dozens of times over the years and he is usually into shooting the poop about the old town and whatever, especially if you have a bike. He rides into bayville frequently these days being it is only a few minutes from his house. Seems his young wife gets a bit bothersome at times as the last two times I met him he was escaping her. A friend also owns a limo business and he is a contracted client.
Anyway he was very disappointed with the bikes riding qualities. His statement over a glass of tea was "I know I am a pain in the ******, but I really stressed I wanted a bike I could RIDE!!!"

It's ten o'clock on a tuesday, The Regulars are at it on the site. While talking about the Teutuls today, it was said Billy Joel's ride was a fright. For the Piano Man's bike was unrideable, at least that's what kars seemed to say. Now I guess I'll go check on the other threads, and offer my quips for the day. You know its funny We have one major builder who loves Triumph Any time the bike is brought up on the show Paul Sr says how fantastic the bikes are. And what do we do, rip on them. These guys are all right by me. Started a shop in a basement, had some luck, grew it into a major company building bikes. Doing there own frames, now making more of there own parts, Sounds like a good old American story. And they have the nerve to like and promote Triumph. yea lets rip on them some more jeeez

Chris - I'm with you man. I never miss an episode of the show and have loved many of the bikes they build. Some have been BS but it’s TV ! I don't care how they go about the process, somehow or other Jr. designs some bikes that are very cool. Do they ride good ? Now idea. Would I choose them to build me a dream chop if I had $70 grand to spend – probably not (but that’s never going to happen anyhow). Fact is they live, eat, breath, love bikes, they worked their way up from nothing (something I always admire), they have THE NUMBER ONE show on the whole of the Discovery channel and they always recognize the importance, heritage and value of Triumph. I tell ya' this...I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with a Triumph, I just hope it’s a Speedy.
