I see on Brent's site there are Uni Pods available as an alternative to the K&N's for airbox removal / modification. I know there's a lot going on with 'Freak' alternatives at the moment and I am gearing up for it too. Has anyone used or considered the Uni Pods ? What about diff in size / fit (problems some are encountering with ghetto 'Freak' ??), cost (they are half the price of K&N's), performance - doubt there's any noticeable diff ? I haven't seen any mention of these yet and I know Uni's Foam filter was a popular alternative to the single K&N.

I have heard that the Uni's do not allow as much air thru them as the K&N's do. Also, that it is a noticable difference between the 2. P.S. "Ghetto Freak" That's the perfect name. We need a Ghetto Freak Instructions in the Tech Vault. You and Privateer Need to hook up with a mod on this!

I was thinking the exact same thing! Ok, New Man Law, Privateer's new method shall be called "Ghetto Freak" from this day forth. Well, if that's okay with him...

So we DO think noticeable diff in performance - OK. I'm not doubting you guys but I'd be interested to hear more on the subject. BTW - I'm so proud I 'penned' a new man law !

Well, I cannot get the K&N RC2890 filters in my box that would allow for removal to clean, etc. I'm going to craft some brackets for the cheese-graters out of light gauge metal stock, than have a friend bend up heavier gauge stuff in a brake. Than I can cut off those tabs and the spouts for the carbs. This was supposed to be a one-two day project for me.......
We called home-made intakes on my old Nissan list "ghetto cold-air kits", always made sense to me!

Me too. K&N, Uni, Emgo too. Folklore abounds, but data is scarce. I read somewhere about the different characteristics of paper, foam, & gauze as relates to pod filters. One thing that made sense to me is that filter area is the most important aspect. K&N would seem to be the choice in that respect. Now, how much flow is required? Maybe the Uni will deliver all the carbs need anyway?

I'd be leery that the UNIs (which appear to be round rather than conical) would really interfere with the %#$%%^&$&@#$ bushing that protrudes from the frame support -- the port-side K&N has a hard time fitting, and it's tapered, so I don't know how anything larger would fit.
Just something to keep in mind. Be careful.

I'm sure you're right (I haven’t even started chopping the air box) but thought they might be shorter overall and therefore not be such a problem. Obviously couldn't tell without dimensions or having any real practical experience with the things.
I favor the K&N's myself but would still like to see comparative data or even just be interested to here from someone who tried the uni's versus the K&N's.
