Anyone seen a "trottle lock" that fits '02 BA? Would be nice to let right hand relax a bit on longer trips. The best would of course be a solenoid clamping the throttle bar at carb location, and have an automatic relase upon engaging brakes..

Well if it's the best you want, try the BrakeAway cruise control. http://www.brakeawayproducts.com/ The Universal Vista, $35 or so, works but you have to make some minor modifications.

You can get a real cruise control for about $100, but I don't think an America pushes enough HP to make a cruise control worth the expense or effort. A coworker with a Connie installed one and he loves it. I've used a throttle rocker for years and am not real comfortable without it now. Added a vista cruise a couple of years ago and it's the best thing since canned peaches for long distances!

I also use a Vista Cruise throttle lock. The mounting hardware is easy to adapt to a variety of grips and mounting styles. It's very handy to have, even for random short term use when you need the right hand to close a helmet front or fiddle with a tank bag or farkle, etc.
I drilled right into the aluminum mount, which has a hollow underneath, then ran a stainless self tapper in to hold it. The start label is for my CRS mind, as I'm used to a left side start button, and thought it prudent not to kill any more old ladies with the Stebel air horn in Walmart's parking lot.
It's very easy to engage and disengage with a flip of the thumb, and doesn't get in the way. It's a light friction grip device, so one can easily roll the throttle off, even with the device locked. You can also easily adjust the throttle position with the device locked, if you want to roll it up or down for a grade. All the device really does is just slightly overcome the throttle cable return spring. The acorn nut adjusts tension, and as you can see, the polished metal band exerts force upon the shiny black plastic ring. I used a little piece of rubber to shore up the top set screw on the black ring. Very simple device. The only concession I've had to make is to press the starter button with my index finger knuckle, instead of with my thumb. That took a day or three to get used to, but now it seems fine. I also run a throttle lever. The lever lends itself well to keeping two fingers on the front brake lever on Bambi roads. (I would avoid the levers that use velcro straps.)
If I were to mount another Vista Cruise, I would make one slight change near the self tapper, but it's a lengthy explanation, so I won't go into it unless requested.

Hi Hammer, If you are using the standard grips you will find that a 7/8" rubber o ring at the end is an excellent cruise control, enough friction to hold the throttle where you want but easily overidden if need be ..extremely cheap too, cheers, Tadpole

Purchased the "brakeaway" $200. Too many adjustments (3) Quality is excellent. Thought behind it leaves alot to be desired. My thoughts, just won't work. You "may" get it adjusted right but it won't stay there. Vista cruise does not make an application for us. For 39 dollars I wished they would. Throttlemeister makes one that goes on the grip end cap and locks down with your little finger (screws, like tightening a bolt). High quality. Looked very promising. Only one shortcoming. Our america's end cap is threaded with a 4mm bolt. I talked with the company rep. and they said that if we re-tap to fit a 6-8mm bolt they will make an application for us. (insurance liability with the smaller bolt. They sounded very willing to help (over the phone) If I remember correctly $150. Me, I decided that in the spring I will get my factory cruise control. It'll be $20,000 but,,,,,whatever. Hope this information helps.

Thanks for the input Jerry. Not exactly a glowing review. I think I'll hold on to my $200. and keep looking at what's available. I guess its not really a "have to have" item.

I beg to differ, as perhaps does jj_ We're both using Vista Cruise locks on modern Triumphs, albeit with very minor mods. Vista Cruise also reported one can't use their hardware with ISO grips, but as shown in my photos, that's not the case. If I recall, his method required a 50 cent hardware store strap, and mine used only original parts plus an added self tapping screw.

I used the vista and simply cut the achoring arm shorter reversed the device and put the arm between the throttle cables. Works fine, I use my index finger to engage and release it.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Ok guys, vista cruise makes an application for the 3 cyl bikes but not for the speedmaster/america. And yes it can be done with their universal kit if you want to adapt a brace bar somehow off the switch mounting bolts. (which would probably look like crap) They do not make an application for us meaning the speedmaster/america guys. And since our models have been out since 2002 "don't plan on them making one 5 years into production". They're not interested. We're small potatoes.

I'll have you know it took a whole hour and 13 minutes to get it to look that crappy.
