I mounted my GPS on my handle bars today, so I went out for a little spin to try it out. It worked great except for the speed on my GPS showed 5 miles an hour slower than the bike speedo.
Any of you guy's ever check to see if the speedometers on our bikes are lieing to us?

it's pretty standard that the stock speedo is off by around 10%.

I've checked mine with a GPS and it's 5 mph off in the 70s. I was crusing with a friend with a GPS and cruise control. His cruise control was set at 75. I was showing 78 and the GPS showed a constant 73.

On my way home from the NERally, a NY State Trooper was
nice enough to confirm my suspicions that my speedo reads
about 10% high. He said I was doing 87 when I blew by him.
I had an indicated 95.

NY State speedometer calibration - $210
Glad he didn't look in my pocket - Priceless!

Here in my little town they love to put the unattended radar units out that tell you how fast you're going. Usually they put them in 25 MPH zones and they flash whenever you go more than 30. I asked the police chief to put it out on the four lane so I could calibrate my speedo without exceeding the speed limit so much next time The look he gave me was NOT pretty

My speedo is about on below 45 but 5 mph high at 60 and above.

I haven't posted for a while, but I have mounted a GPS on my bike it's a TOM TOM rider. Specifically made for the motorbike. Trying to work out some permanent wiring (plug and play)so as I can interchange between bikes.

Yes, the speedos do lie.... I hae a Garmin 2730, works pretty well... It does readouts in the 10ths...There's at least 5 or 6 (sometimes 10) satellites sneding signals for the SGPS to do triangulations for speed...That's good enuf for me... my Speedy shows 4mph faster, the Harley, FJR1300 and the Jeep all are about 1/2 mph fast... good enuf for me.
I love my GPS....Unlike me, it doesnt' get lost! <BG>

Charlie, found myself thinking of you today when some Edgar Winter's White Trash came on the radio-a rarity these days.
Maybe this summer we'll ride again
(even tho you dont know what I'm talkin about)

Boy that is rare!
One of my fav albums is EW's WT Roadwork(live).
When I worked for Edgar(1 year), Gerry LaCroie(sp?) was
playing harp, and singing. He'd also play tenor sax. Man,
was that a great gig!
I think it was on this album that Edgar walks up to the mic,
and says "People keep ask'n me: where's your brother? C'mon
out Johnny!" or something like that. And them they rip into
a burn'n version of "Still Alive and Well".

I've gotta get a cd of this.

Still Alive and Well........Still Alive and Well

But I'm Still Alive and Well!

Sorry Mert for the runon,
Uncle Charlie

Love that one, too. The radio played "Good Morning Music", which had Le Croix as well. Good stuff, UncaC
