From time to time, about 3 times a year, I travel to the Phoenix area with my 15 year old son for ice hockey tournaments. This time I'm staying in Chandler. And everytime I'm here I am amazed at the beauty of the southwest and this city(and its suburbs). I am jealous of the riders I see riding around in perfect weather, perfect roads, and perfect scenery. Early mornings are just awesome..right about the time when the sun comes up. I might have to move here. I know...its really hot in the summer. But that is what morning and evenings are for. Anyway...off to the rink(where its 45 degrees).

Phoenix is really HOT. Normally its about three degrees higher in terms of the days high temp. My parents are retired in Sun City West. Phoenix reminds me traffic wise of the greater LA area in terms of rush hour. If you can live with that its great. Great riding weather yesterday with temps above the norm for this time of year. Rode out to Collosal Cave with the wife on the back sans jacket. Hope you enjoy your time here in Az

I have an ex in Phoenix, other than that it is a great place! The roads up to Prescott are wonderful, and out Sedona way is fine too. Very nice people too, and don't forget... it's a dry heat.

The difference I've noticed between Phoenix weather and Tucson weather after living out here for over 10 years is that Phoenix doesn't cool off as much at night in the summertime. It'll be 70-80 at midnight down here on a hot summer day, while in Phoenix it'll still be 95-100.
But you did pick a great time of the year to visit. October-November is the best time of the year to ride. Although we get similar temps in the spring, it's usually a bit windier that time of the year.

Funny....tomorrow is reported as likely to be one of the coldest days of the winter season here with a predicted low temp in the early morning of 32 degrees and a high only in the fifties. fallout from a cold front in Colorado.
All the locals will be worried about their persishable plants. Life is sure hard here in the Old Pueblo.
Coldest day of the year likely. LOL.

Ive been to Pheonix one time. I came over in 1991 (or was it 92) for a two week tour of the states on a Grehound Buss Went to Pheonix for the Formula 1 Grand Prix when they held it on the city streets. Nigel Mansel span his Ferrari directly in front of where i was standing. I got a picture of him walking past me back to the pit. But ive since lost the picture. Cant remember much about the city, but i was there in March, the weather was wonderful and the Greyhound Bus station was less than 100 yards fron the entrance to the track. Oh and when i came out of the bus station the first person i spoke to was from Watford, ENGLAND. I thought, Bloody Brits, they're everywhere. Left Pheonix that night on the bus and headed North. Got out that night in a place called Falgstaff, there was snow on the ground and i was in shorts and a t-shirt. Froze my knackers off. No one said in the tourist guide, Pheonix HOT, Flagfstaff, Really COLD. Side note, Greyhound Buss trips. WOW, what an experience. Dont think i would do that again. Except there was a 'interesting' incident in Tallahassie FL, involing local lass. But we wont go there.

Well, if we are 'fessing up to visiting Phoenix, I've been there too. About 15 years ago, I was at a 4 day conference at Pointe South Mountain Resort put on by HP. Had a great time and even got in ride (horseback) through South Mountain Park. The things I remember the most: Grass - The resort bordered a golf course. The ONLY place where the grass was green was inside the perimeter of the sprinklers. Very nice round circles of green grass!! Weather - It was HOT! All the time! Hotter than Florida! Kept hearing 'but it's a dry heat'. Yeah right, it's still TOO hot!!! Also, not a cloud in the sky. Ever. I was glad to get home and see some clouds!!! Desert - What struck me the most was people's yard landscaping. Lot's of cacti, rocks, and sand adorned front yards. Everywhere was as dry as dry could be. When we were on the horseback ride, the guide would point out flowering cacti and we were all appreciative. He then told us that this was the 'wet season'!! HUH??? Had a great time. Would love to ride a bike through some of those areas.

Grassy yards around these parts are seldom seen. Not having to water is a great incentive in that regard.
You do see some grass in residential areas but not much.
Yep its a dry heat and its DRY. During a 65 mile PGR ride from Mesa out towards Roosevelt Lake in early August we had two riders drop out due to near heat exhaustion. Both individuals were older over weight fellas and the combination of high dry ambient temps and being "out of shape" and not drinking enough water got to them in a big way.
The wet season runs from typically anyime just afer the fourth of July and continues to around mid to late August.
During that time of year violent late afternoon thunderstorms can be prolific and very sudden sometimes combined with isolated high winds or violent "down bursts" that rival miniature tornadoes.

Oh GREAT! now everyone ELSE is going to be moving up here and the traffic is going to get horrible, they'll take all the twisties out of the roads to protect the GOOFBALLS who don't know how to drive in the mountains, and then there will be SMOG, and a fastfood place on every corner, and the already outrageous housing costs will go up even further....
THANKS A LOT Dwight! Appreciate that!
PS - its 31F in Prescott today as of this moment per the NWS, with a windchill of 18F!!! Flagstaff is 18F with a windchill of 4F!!! so there!
