All the research I've done, points to anti-lock brakes as the best way to maximize braking performance. Especially under suboptimal road conditions. I haven't been able to turn up a ABS kit for any type of bike, much less my Speedy. Is it even feasible to try and use the guts of say a BMW ABS system to retrofit an ABS system for my bike?

I think there is a lot of hardware and some software involved in it. Like the Beemers have special hubs with the notches in them for the sensors and what not. I don't think it is a retrofit sort of deal...

i agree with earl. if it were a simple task ,triumph would have came out with it on the new tiger. they said the engineers were having some diffculty and it would be out later in the year. if it were a plug and play type of deal they could taken the system from the sprint.

But he's absolutely right. ABS is an electronic system. As such it has to be configured for each model.

Anyone ever try one of these brake control bolts? I must say, for the price, I'm tempted to just get one.

"Brake control bolts"? What the bloody he[[ do you think the control levers are for? If these things are so good, why not cut out the middleman and just inject air into the system?.......Doh!

I wouldn't want anything between me and as much pressure as I want to put on the rotor. I've locked the front wheel up, you just gotta know that it'll happen one time or another. In all essences, using the front and rear together will provide more than enough stopping force without breaking loose either tire. And it does it in a hurry too.

I guess I'm gonna be the one out here. I was intrigued by the idea. When I smacked that deer last fall, I went over my reactions after the hit to try and evaluate my performance. In retrospect, I think that I POSSIBLY might have missed impact by a better application of brakes. I think that I have a tendancy to hit the brakes hard, but then give it a momentary "let off" to stop the brakes from locking. And what about the testimonials? Seemed like honest enough stuff.

Just what I was looking for, spongy brakes.

If you were to add ABS to both wheels, you may also need to add a front vs. rear brake proportioning system.

and...

The entire braking & proportioning system would need to be engineered to revert to a manual system in failure mode.

It's a minimum of 17 pocket protectors job, with a couple three prop hats thrown in for good measure.



Then there is the insurance carrier's position, that in the
event of a claim, they have the potential back door of a bike without a DOT approved braking system.

I feel soooo alone now! I showed the gadget to my favorite cousin, a gadjet freak and computer expert, and even he dissed it! Now I know how the Maytag repairman feels (I still would like to try it, but I suppose if I did I would have to conceal it with something in case any of youse saw it on my bike!

My old Harleys all came with anti-skid brakes. Anti-stop too for that matter.

my old Triumphs came with the same system!
