Rebuild the motor, put it all together, fabed up what needed fabing. So once I get it to start, I'll put a chain on it and run it for a month or so (to see what breaks) before I rip it down and send it off to paint.

That looks sweet Jack! Nice little bike to rip around on, to hell with the paint, leave it in primer dood.
Did you do the rebuild yourself? I've got a '73 that I was thinking about making a little bobber out of but gave up on 'cuz I can't handle kick starting anymore. Engine runs but really needs a rebuild, after looking at your pic if I knew I could get a "one kick" machine out of it I'd go for it!

SweatMachine, you are just the man I need to talk to. I am working on a friends 1980 XS650. I just installed a Boyer Bransden electronic ignition on the bike. The problem I have is the manual is not specific. He bought the bike used and said it was originally a electronic ignition bike(1980 and up) but someone converted it to points and patched in wire everywhere. I am now finished converting it back to electronic but had to use the information from Mikes650 website. This info was for a '75 Yamaha which came with points. If I sent you the photos of the final wiring could you take a look and give me your opinion.....Angelis

angelis, I'm really not that familiar with the wiring, yet...mine is a 78 so it's points, but I do have a Boyer brand new in box waiting on me to finish the build. Black Widow choppers used to have a wiring diagram that was pretty straightforward. I was looking on their site but couldn't find it just now. Here's a link: link

Nice job. Saw that on the JJ forum in the "best bobber pix" thread. Love them pipes. Did you make them? Wolfe Cycles in Baltimore has a new set like that for sale, $175. I'm mulling over a Christmas gift to me!

A retired Triumph wrench came over last Saturday to look at my '66 Bonnie. Found both coils were in bad shape, but the ignition was good, pistons look great as did the head/valves. Has a blown head gasket. I ordered:
Gasket set
coils
dual petcocks to replace the single currently in place
Single spigot carb banjos (current double)
And some other misc items.
Once it's all in, we'll put on the new head gasket, adjust valves, timing, carbs, etc.
I'm new to this stuff, but this old wrench seems to know everything. I just watch and learn.
Glad you'll get a few miles on it before winter hits. I'm hoping to do the same, but it will be a chilly test ride.

Nice looking bikes. I really like the frame on Jack's Triumph. Most I see are too long for my tastes. I shouldn't click on these threads though, because it makes me want to start a project bike. I think I'm just trying to put off the inevitable.

Sal, go for it if you really want to do it. We only live once. I don't make much $$$$ on a Troopers salary but building a bike is what I always wanted to do(and restore a '69 RoadRunner) and decided to go ahead with the project. Alot of $$$(alot of overtime to help fund this project) and time but eventually I'll get it done......Angelis

Nice bikes guys. I too am building a '69 TR6R, I have most of the fabbing done. I just need to finish welding a few things on it, paint it, and then start to wire it up. I was hoping to finish it this winter, but now I'm not so sure I'll be able to. I still can't lift anything over 10# so that means opening the garage door is out.

Jack- are you still using 7/8" bars or did you switch over to 1" ?
