The PGR in Illinois is having a welcome home celabration this Tuesday for a young soldier from Iraq that lost both his legs and an arm in an IED blast. The PGR is planning on picking him up from the airport and having a big parade through his hometown. Since he is a former rider, they have a sidecar rig for him. I decided to mount this 3 ft by 5 ft flag to my bike for the event. I tested it today to 75 mph and it worked perfectly. Didn't affect the handling of the bike at all. Now we just have to hope for good weather Tuesday. It was freezing riding around today.

Good to see people are looking after their Vets, we have been lucky here in Australia with regards to casualties from Iraq.
Nothing better than going for a ride after coming back from a deployment like Iraq I know I enjoyed my first ride back from there

Looks good Vance. I would like to see more detail on how you did the mount. Can you get any detailed photos of that?

Here is a closeup of the mount I made for the flag. It consists of two steel brackets. One attaches with two bolts to the two sides of the luggage rack. The other bracket mounts with one bolt through the top of the sissy bar. Both brackets are removable in 5 minutes if I am not using the flag. The flag itself is removable from the brackets with one thumbscrew (shown at the base of the aluminum pole) so I can use the flag when standing in a flag line. Two pieces of aluminum tubing telescope one inside the other for the staff. When extended, they make a flagpole almost 8 ft high.

Excellent. Nice looking setup. Although it is distressing that this young man suffered so much at least he is alive. The Welcome home rides are so much better than the funerals.

I am a member. Six missions to date (unfortunately) Only two have been welcome home rides and one was a counter protest ride to help muffle the ugly noise from the pie holes of some lefties outside Ft Huachuca's main gate.

Clanrickarde asked for some more detailed photos of my flag bracket. This first photo shows the upper bracket. It mounts with the single nut through a hole at the top of the rear sissybar. The crossbar presses against the rear of the sissybar to keep the bracket from wobbling when the flag waves back and forth. This next photo shows the lower bracket. On my luggage rack it mounts with two bolts through two holes in the sides of the luggage rack. With the Triumph luggage rack, you could make a similar bracket only with little plates on the ends that clamp the bars of the kuggage rack between the plates. The thumbscrew and wingnut secures the flagpole. Hope this helps. Vance
