Being a long time serious radio listener, I just finished a 700 mile roadtrip with a co-worker who has Sirius satellite radio. Arriving back in the civilized community of Missoula she stopped at "Best Buy" and I was coerced into purchasing a Serius player myself. With installation directions in hand I'll head to the garage and figure this thing out over the weekend . Keep in mind, twelve years ago I was on a mission to help someone here, promptly got stuck in 2' of March snowstorm up a side canyon for 4 hours. I knew where I was, but during the confusion the office contacted the sheriff's office to start looking. I innocently wandered back into the building to find people planning my untimely demise & ordering flowers. Followed by "You will buy a cell phone!" Now that old bag phone has served me well, but I am being "encouraged" to get a new digital, pocket type, since the bag phone stays in the truck and I tend to ignore messages. Add the the fact I have lots of cassette tapes and a truck with only a CD player, lots of vinyl LP's and a turntable that recently recently stopped turning. Next on the list will be a digital camera, so I can share pictures of what "real" motorcycle roads and mountains look like. . I'm drawing the line at "bluetooths" and "blackberries" however. Cheers, JH

I've had the xm for a couple years now, best money I've ever spent. I use it at work in my shop on the road and in the house. Once you have it hooked up you'll wonder how you ever got along without it

I can't see paying $12.95 a month to listen to the radio, but that's just me. I guess if you're on the road a lot, it might be worth it. If I ever felt the need for music while riding, I think I'd go with an MP3 player.

OMFG, You're finally going to join us in the twenty-first century and get a cell phone? Yikes! Stop the presses! And with sat. radio and a digital camera, you'll have more gadgets than I do! I better go shopping!

Maybe one foot at a time, it's a baby step. Jury's out on the mini-digital-cell-text message-camera-wireless internet gadget.
Derek - I'm in the hills, so radio is sketchy, except late night. I live in MT, but the majority of news comes from Washington as I'm too "thrifty" to cough up for cable. Radio's a trade-off ~ "theater of the mind".
Tonight is "Ambulance Bingo", high point of the fall social season. And you guys thought we were simple country people!!

I miss Missoula! If it weren't for the long winters I'd still be in Seeley Lake. TV without either cable or the dish is just not very doable in the mountains around there though. In Seeley we had very little reception for either radiou or TV. We did get NPR though and that saved the day many times.

I hear that Randy,
Missoula has a soul, it's a great place to hang out . Probably one of the reasons I couldn't get truly excited about the Kalispell deal. Never have been able to find the heartbeat up there. Montana cities are strange that way, they all have personalities.

Hey John,
I was just offering up my opinion of sat radio in general, it wasn't really directed at you. I'm not much for listening to the radio in a serious way, but I don't have a problem with people who do. Oh sure I'll have it on in the garage while I'm dinking around out there, but it's just background noise for the most part. If I really want to listen to something, I'll throw in a CD.
And just out of curiosity, what the heck is "Ambulance Bingo"?

Never took your observation any other way than as a personal observation Derek. I'm pretty "oblivious" that way .
Ambulance bingo? No, they don't raffle off ambulances. It's a fundraiser for the local volunteer ambulance/emt crew. People pay 5 bucks a card for 20 games, plus quarter games for other prizes. Some buy lots of cards. Turkeys, and all kinds of stuff are donated for the winners. It's the social event of the fall season in our little town. This evening we had 350-400 people in the local gymnasium, I know many of the people and about all of the crew. I mostly attend to harass and torment friends (kind of like on this board). It's a service nobody takes for granted. They generally raise 4 - 5 thousand dollars, which helps in a small way to make the budget.
