I've noticed some conflicting opinions about whether or not to yank the carbs when rejetting. Any advice for someone diving into their carbs for the first time this week?

Still got the airbox? Gonna be a b!tch. Then again, leaving them on will be too Try getting at the screws for the float bowls first. Cause they are coming off either way. Get the screw kit too! And be careful not to strip em out.

I pulled the carbs out when I rejetted. Its a little more work but not really that time consuming.

I just followed Pat's destructions in detail from his site and things went fairly well. Once you take out those allens holding the airbox in place (inside rear fender) its no problem to simply pull the carbs up and out and turn them over to work on.

first time around i took my carbs off per pats instructions, very easy,then i installed the hex screws and now i can do it easily on the bike

I vote for following Pat's instructions. They are very clear and concise.

It was my first time diving into the carbs...and, following his instructions, everything went smoothly.

I left mine installed. Not to difficult except for the inner aft screws.............

I've done both and I also would recommend taking them off the first time. Doing this gives you a really good feel for where everything is, and prevents you from stripping the screws.

Put the carb screw kit on that first time. Brent's kit is better than just Home Depot bin hex screws...plus the little washers are a nice and necessary touch. Either way those will definitely help if you want to do it w/o pulling the carbs.

Another thing that helps me is a custom-ground ~2" screwdriver that fits right up into the jet holes. The rejet process takes me less time than the carb balancing, screw setting, etc, now.

Oh one last thing - and others probably have better methods than this - draining the bowls: I just use probably 15" worth of aluminum foil folded up several times in the form of a chute and set one end under the bowl drain and the other over a coffee can that I can place a-way's from the bike.

Good job on the screws

I have a piece of plastic tubing that I got from work that I pop onto the float bowl nipple and drain into a coke can. Shari knows I have plenty of those laying around!
