I received my new BUB slashcut slip-ons's via UPS thru Motomart Direct on Friday.. pulled by old stock pipes off on Saturday preparing for a charity ride here in LA on Sunday. The damn things were the wrong size. I looked again at the paperwork said for Triumph Bonneville America 2004-2005. Mine is an '06. Was there a change since the '05's? The fit to the header was good but rear mount was an inch short of the mark, the pipes are shorter and have a wider rear opening, so even if they did fit the right pipe would hit the chain. I have the store guy trying to contact BUB.. but I can't imagine there would be such a drastic change in sizing from '05 to'06. Anyone? I'm hoping they just screwed up the order somehow.

I haven't heard of any changes in the size of the header pipes from 05 to 06. If there was such a change it would have been mentioned here at some point. Sounds like a possible qulity issue. If you line up the bracket with the mounting location does it still have room to slip over the header? Could you be sliding the pipe to far forward on the header?
Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

Chris,
I think BuB’s screwed up your order or you slid the pipes on too far. I just talked with Kasey (sales manger at the local dealership) there was no change in the mounting for the 06’s.

Mounting bracket backwards, or on the wrong side?

I have the same pipes on my '06 TBA, the fit was tight but they went on ok. Clearance to the chain is very close, but they have never touched. Putting them on took some wiggling and turning back and forth. The mounts came out in the right place though.

Same pipes on a 2003 Speedmaster. I thought the bracket was off by an inch when I put them on a few years ago also. The pipe slides on a long way, head pipe goes into the baffle, lube up with silicone and twist on.

I just put some BUBs on my 06 TBA and it was a freaking nightmare. Trying to do it alone was not a good idea. The fit was extremely tight and seemed to come up short. I had to get some friends involved to help push and twist them into the right position. I had to have one person hold the bike because I was afraid we were gonna push it over.
I also had them very close to the chain at first. Once we twisted them a bit to fit into the mark better, it rotated the end of the pipe away from the chain. They now fit fine. This is not a project I would attempt solo again.

I did finally manage to get mine on by myself.. but as Calen says, it was a big pain. I started with the right side. As I said before and calen confirms it initially comes up short of the rear mount.. you have to really lube it up and twist it up the pipe until it fits.. and it really comes frighteningly close to the chain. But it finally co-operated. Funny thing was the left side went on a whole lot easier. So it can be done.. and I thank a gentleman named Doug who kept in touch with me thru e-mail and didn't let me quit, as I was about ready to return them. They are now on and sound great. Chris
