Ok Friarjohn, WTF is going on in Montana that over 11" of rain fell in Glacier in one day! That is an insane amount of water. I couldn't believe these pics! nps glacier nps swiftcurrent lake
I know that Global Warming is a serious problem and that the Glaciers in the park are receding so quickly that a new name for the Park will be needed within a few years, but this is crazy. I guess there won't be much traffic on Going To The Sun Road next year, this is going to take some time to repair!

Hey Randy,

Last week we had "oneofthosepineappleexpress" weather systems for about 3 days. The Jetstream pumped southern Pacific water through here, fortunately the Cascade range on coast of Washington wrung some water out before arriving inland. I haven't heard any predictions of opening next year, on the bright side this might be an opportunity to make it "motorcycles only", given the single lane washouts.

As you know the Sun road is one of those roadbuilding marvels, hanging off the sides of mountains. I've ridden it a few times, but you have to pay attention to your business pretty closely given the narrowness, tourist traffic and drop offs. It was built in the 20's or 30's (??) and it's starting to show it's age. Every year the NPS spends time fixing bad spots. For a number of years, some people have wanted to close it completely for a season or two and fix it right, but closure impacts on local economies could be significant. To my knowledge the engineers haven't had a chance to really inspect the damage, winter is pretty much in full swing up there now.

Thanks for the pics, the local news had some footage, but I hadn't seen those. A postcard reminder from Mother Nature .

JH

Simple. It's the end of the world as we know it.

I knew I should've ridden my bike up to Glacier Park this summer. ::sigh::

We had some serious flooding here in Washington, also. I guess it's our turn. The northeast had it earlier.
