Flotki . The photos don't show the actual mounting. The tanks come with 2 steel straps that go around the tank. They (the straps) have room on the bottom to allow them to mount to something. I used those as attach points for small hose clamps (with scrap tube rubber protection) attaching to the luggage rack. For additional cost you can get a complete mount kit with hoses, fittings, and a valve. I ran the gas line along the left side along the seat frame and into the fuel line between the petcock and carbs. There is a positive on-off valve along the line just behind the key (originally near the petcock, but it got in the way). When the bike coughs at about 135 miles, I reach down and flip the lever. It responds as fast or faster than switching to reserve. It's not really quick-disconnect, but with after-market quick disconnect fittings it can probably be made so. I didn't want to mess with on-off, and have gotten used to having the extra 3 (not really 3.5) gallons. Traveling through Canada, I went 300 miles between stops once. Going from VA to NV and back one week, I usually got about 250 between stops. Commuting into DC everyday I've just gotten used to not getting gas before going 200-250 miles.
I've since put the tank in a bag that makes it look like a travel bag rather than a pony keg (it looks like a hot-rod gas tank to me). And put a chain attaching the cap after leaving the cap at a gas station once. And I've also put the lettes C.V.N. on the bag to remind me to 'Close Valve Now' after getting gas, since the tank will overflow the main and empty gas to the ground out the vent line if the main is full.
