This may have been posted before, but here it is again. The following link is the testimony of a young sport bike rider who hit the bricks at 120mph wearing a full face helmet and not much else. Then she lived to tell about it. The few cases of rash that hurt me so bad were nothing compared to her wounds. She wants all riders to be mindful of what could happen when riding unprotected. Most of us here wear durable riding gear, but in her case, it wouldn't have been enough. She slid 522 feet. She's riding again, and acting a fooligan again. I've preached to my daughters to NEVER get on a bike without a backrest (or a bike WITH a fool). Brittany Morrow's Sliding Story

Hey Dennis,
I can't remember where that story popped up, but it's worth retelling. Lots of ways to look at it, the invulnerability of youth and non-youth, the human spirit to get back on a bike, the "it'll never happen to me" school of thought, the advantages of riding gear when and if body meets pavement. She never mentions what came of the "Shaun" character.
I had one somewhat "spirited ride" years ago on the back of a no sissy bar chopped Triumph 650. It taught me 1) I don't like being a passenger, 2) If I have a passenger, their mental & physical well-being is my responsibility.

That story inspired me to change my lax Summer rider attire & habits of jeans & T shirt, and to invest in mesh for myself and my wife.

I would NEVER ride at those speeds with a passenger, thats just stupid!!!
I learned these lessons quite young. Before even having a license a guy in the neighborhood I use to ride dirt with had a spill at 120+ and managed to slide on his ****** and hands most of the way. Had gloves and shorts on. Lost most of his ******. Did not crap right for a year. I do often wear jeans when riding now but I do not ride with such speed or risks anymore. Always have the rest of my gear on, mesh with armor in the summer. Recently ordered over pants and will try a pair of sliders.

I agree. Look at her "MySpace.com" (click her name at the top of her write-up) and you'll see that she runs with a group of kids that apparently missed school the day they were giving Stupid Vaccinations. Anyway, she's a pretty young lady and it's a shame if she didn't learn anything. At least she practices safe riding by using protection and she shared a good testimony that we all need to hear.

I am a firm believer in good gear. I have full face helmet, 2 diff jackets for the weather, gloves to match and a good set of boots. All I'm missing is a good pair of pants as jeans are all I currently have. Maybe for Christams I will get a set (have looked long and hard but not found any the fit quite right)
07 TBA Pacific Blue and White.. stock for now!
A bike has half the wheels my cage does.. but 3x the fun factor

I wear a Cortech jacket, OLympia pants, gloves and flip up full face Nolan helmet even if I;m going down to the corner store. I remember reading that most accidents happen in the first 6 minutes of a ride.
I skidded on my forehead on a bike once 20 years ago and the skin will never be right. That was painful, I can't imagine what this young woman went through.
All of my stuff, including helmet and jacket are bright yellow and black-I don't give a **** about looking cool-I'm more concerned with saftey. I get noticed more on the bike becuase of the bright colors and cutoff less by other drivers than when I'm in my black pickup.
Everyone's choice what you wear when you ride but spend some time in a emergency room and watch the people they bring in that have accidents without safety gear.
On the 'Two Wheel Texans' site I saw a blurb where a guy went down wearing the same gear I wear. He was at very high speed and slid 40-50 feet on the asphalt and only got a broken rib-no road rash.
