Well I just got done watching the rugby match between New Zealand and England. Most points ever scored at Tickenham by a visiting squad and biggest losing margin on the same grounds, giving the defending World Cup holders their 6th loss in a row. No wonder the Twickenham crowd was subdued the entire evening. Most quiet I've ever heard that crowd.

And even though I've only been watching rugby about 6 years now, I don't think I've ever seen a better player than Dan Carter. His fend off(that's stiff arm for you NFL types) of Anthony Allen on the way to a try gave the England debutante an embarrassing moment. But the golden handbag has to go Grewcock for pulling the hair of Andy Ellis. Quite the catfighter that Grewcock.

At the same time as the match above was being played, I was recording Tottenham vs Chelsea. Sometimes I wonder why I watch the EPL, and then a match like this comes along. It had everything and then some. And unlike Twickenham, the Hotspurs crowd was raucous and in form, but it's understandable since it was the first time Tottenham has beaten Chelsea in 16 years. I thought the Ledley King tackle on Arjen Robben was one of the best I've ever seen. Absolutely brilliant in a match full of highlights. And what a strange site it was to see when John Terry was sent off for his 2nd yellow card.

Under normal circumstances the 2nd yellow would be undeserved, but I think Chelsea's harassment of match referees is their own undoing. I see it time and again when overtly physical challenges by either side starts 6 or 7 Chelsea players marching towards the ref demanding justice. IMO this does them no good in the end, whether the ref deserves it or not.

Funny you should mention that...well, not funny to you. Yesterday I'm at my local watering hole, and I saw a guy wearing a West Ham jersey on the other side of the bar. Now this is quite unexpected for this little bar, so I just HAD to go over and say hi. Well this was around 5:30 pm, and by then he was liquored up pretty good. I said something like; "Hey, is that a West Ham United shirt?", and "didn't they beat Arsenal today?". Both questions got a slurred "YEAHHHHH, GO HAMMERS!!!!" out of him. When I left it looked like he was ready to pick a fight with somebody.

Who says we don't have soccer hooligans over here?

I was at a soccer tournament all weekend. I was in the referee tent with some of the referees and a couple of them are from England. I was given one guy hell all day saturday. He is a Man City supporter and they lost. He got his own back on Sunday.

Hey Derek
Talking of Tottenham vs Chelsea ...
I was in town the other day and (for some unknown reason) I looked at the window of the betting shop (unknown because I don't bet!).
Odds of 100-1 ... drawing at half time with Tottenham to win!!

If only I'd thought "sod it, I'll stick a tenner on it", eh? ....

BTW, Ledley King? bloody good player IMO.

Well, I was actually watching the rugby from a download since I don't have Setanta, which is a subscriber based sports channel exclusive to Directv over here and the only way to watch live rugby in the USA. I have cable and won't switch to Directv because of some bad experience I had with them a few years ago. I have been bugging my cable company to get Setanta though.

Good to see an All Black fan on the site. You'll find plenty of England supporters to badger here. Not too many fans of the Wallabies or Springboks though...or at least they keep it well hidden if they are.

The Spurs/Chelsea match was a shocker -great match. True about Lennon, amazing he's only 19.

By the way, Derek is crushing everyone in the EPL fantasy league. Mark, it's probably better that you didn't complete the entry of your team. If Arsenal could get points for nice passes or controlling the game they'd be doing quite well as of late. Unfortunately, you have to score goals to get points. What's up w/Arsene being such a poor sport?

This sort of stuff often happens. Its the press making a big storey out of it. Coaches often square up to each other. Its all a bit silly, but there you go. Not the forst time and wont be the last.

My lead is shrinking after last weekend, Gooners is right behind only 30 points back. I built a lot of those points around the Portsmouth backline, and I'm afraid they're finally getting an overdue reality check. I tried before last weekend to get them off my squad, but at this point it will take shuffling my entire roster to get rid of them. My psychic network moment of the year so far was getting Rooney right before he scored his hat trick.
