Does anyone know of a "system" or had good luck with a home made set up to get speakers integral in your helmet?

Etymotic ER6 are great. They're better than any regular earplugs I've ever used and produce unbelievable sound.

Yes they are. If anyone is shopping for these, be sure to get the ER6i. The "i" models have greater sensitivity and bass response than the ER6 models. They come in black too. I have a problem with white earphones and white cables. They stand out as if to say "Woo hoo! Driver (rider) is wearing earplugs!" which is probably illegal in many states, (but I won't tell if you don't)

I bought a pair of high quality earphones. The large ones that have an adjustable clip that sits over the back of your ear. I simply took the casing off them. Put large foam pads on them and bluetacked them into the recesses next to my ear in the helmet. I ran the cord out the bck and around the front. When I don't want them I roll it up and store under the liner. I have an open face Shoei.

This is what I had in mind. Thanks for the idea.... pretty straight forward. Does an MP3 player have enough power to overcome wind noise? I assume "bluetacked" = contact cement? Let me know if I am wrong. If you have a photo that would be great! Thanks!

There will be no bass response unless the transducers are in the ear canal with a plug, and what you do hear at highway speeds with speakers will be minimal at best. An earphone amp helps too.
