Hi all,
I put in Brent's little clutch lifter dress up kit. This requires pushing the lifter arm forward in order to release the cable from the lifter arm. I did this, released the cable, allowed the clutch lifter arm to rest (in a position further to the rear then it would with the cable attached) and--after installing the little boot--applyed forward pressure and put the cable back in the lifter. When I'm done, my clutch is totally out of adjustment, with oodles of free play. Did I screw up big time to do I just need to readjust my clutch cable? It's so out of whack I'm wondering if an adjustment would do it. Did this happen to anyone else?
Thanks.

It's not screwed up, you've just had a minor stuff up. Chances are the cable outer isn't sitting in it's hole correctly, or something similar to that. Check the cable at both ends to make sure it's seated correctly. Moving the clutch arm forward won't hurt, coz that's what the clutch lever does to it anyway. (Assuming you didn't use a 3 foot long wrench and turn it 90 degrees or something )

Thanks. I was actually more worried about letting it release backward since that's not something it would do normally.
By the way, Sandman, I'm installying my LED idiot lights tonight. Thanks for the info on your website!

Yes it is really messed up,, I will save youi the trouble and hard time of fixing it by letting you give it to me.. I would not do this for everyone, but I hate to see a fellow Triumph ridder go throught it.. PM me for my shipping address.. Trust me you will be much happier knowing I have it..
But seriously it soulds liek something did not seat back like it should have.. Puthe boot back and see if the end of the cable is seated in the pocket corectly.. Then check the clutch lever for the same.. Just unhooking the cable and installing a dressup kit should not require a adjustment..
Dont like what you see??? Big red X in the top right of your screen will fix it!

Thanks guys.
Both of the cable heads were properly seated. So I adjusted the cable to take up all the slack and it seems fine. I'll ride it today to make sure the proper amount of pressure is being applied. I'm still a bit confused about how I created all that slack. Anyway.
Thanks again!

Mike,
Didn't you have to loosen up the cable to begin with to get the cable lug out. In the future count the valleys on the adjusters so you have a good reference point when you put everything back together.

Hey John,
Nope. The directions just said to move the lifter forward enough to get the cable out. Good advice, though. Thanks.

Or you can loose just one jam nut with the 2nd staying in its place for reassmbly as the ref point

I installed Brent's cover and boot last year. I used a properly sized crescent wrench for leverage and rotated the clutch release arm lever forward which created plenty of slack to remove the cable end. I then slowly released pressure on the lever and it came to a rest at about 3-4 o'clock. Installed the boot and used the wrench to move the clutch release arm lever forward enough to re-install the clutch cable end. I did not have to re-adjusst anything after. btw, my clutch release arm lever rests at 6 o'clock.... clutch release arm lever = that little lever thingie that the clutch cable attaches to on top of the motor
