Yesterday (Sunday) I got up early; wife and kids were out of town, so taking a ride wouldn't take away from family time. I left Greensboro at about 9:30, headed north on US 52. Stopped at Pilot Mountain, and hiked around there for almost an hour. Five tour buses pulled up as I was putting my gear back on to leave: perfect timing. I continued north on 52 into Virginia. Checked on our little mountain cabin, grabbed a drink, and then hit the Blue Ridge Parkway for a nice easy ride. It was perfect: temps between 45-55 all day, not a cloud in the sky, a little windy in the afternoon, but not too bad. Finally headed back south on 52 in the afternoon, and stopped at Wake Forest U. (my alma mater) for a brief look-around. The Deacs are 7-1, ranked for the first time in years, and beat UNC on Sat., so the mood was good on campus. It's changed a lot in the fifteen years since I was there, but still felt familiar. After walking and riding around campus for a little while, I finally headed for home, and got there about 4:00. It ended up being about a 250 mile day. My first extended ride on my surgically-repaired wrist, which was a little stiff and sore but otherwise fine. I put some photos of my stops in my album here. Even if you didn't ride, I hope everybody in this part of the country got outside and did something yesterday. Absolutely beautiful day. Here's a shot of the bike with Wait Chapel in the background (at WFU). Ride safe everybody, Will

It was a great day! One of those that you file away and pull up when it's blowing snow in Jan. Then you clean something on your bike.
Here is my awesome day snap.

I did 80 miles on sunday, on the SW coast of Scotland, a bit overcast, but not to cold, Wife & kids were out also. I went from Irvine to Turnberry golf club, a realy nice coastal route. No snaps (sorry)

I remember this episode of Star Trek, the Next Generation, called "Sub Rosa", that took place on a planet that was supposedly terraformed to look like the Scottish highlands, complete with scheduled fog at nights. Made me want to see the real deal. PICS!!!

Well I just got back from an awesome ride! 31 miles, cloudy, snowing and 28 degrees. Cold, no other way to put it. But one of the few if any remaining rides for me this year. Yesterday it was supposed to have been 50, I was at work! I'm still holding out for another day to ride, but supposed to get accumulation of snow today and tonight, so they will likely salt the roads and end my season. So, crazy as it sounds, it was a great day.

Here's some pix from a ride 3 weeks ago
This one shows the island of Arran, on the SW coast of Scotland. The formation on the peaks of the island is called the sleeping soldier

This one is from the coast road to Turnberry golf club

A few miles from my home

Spud, beautiful photos. I'd love to see some more pics of Scotland. The coast road must be an incredible ride.

Mmmm, sorry Spud, I just don't think that'll be good enough!! Perhaps if you were to send a plane ticket and loan me your bike, I MIGHT be able to otherwise overlook this problem!!! Actually reminds me of my couple visits to Holy Loch way back when (not often enough for my tastes). Remember very well watching the weather changes coming down the Loch (which runs N-S) from the Highlands, rain, then snow, then sun, in 15 minute intervals. Truly beautiful to watch (not so great for the poor schmucks who had to stand watch topside in this!) And everything so green, even in midwinter, similar to New England (but better!) Got to Glasgow once, and Edinburgh, just wish I could find a way back (too old now to volunteer for subs again, not to mention the bodily injuries it would bring upon me from my wife!)

Spud - (Sorry, Will just a little more hijacking here)
There is a slim chance that I'm going to get to Glasgow next spring....got any suggestions for hiring a couple bikes and where to go? I'll actually be there (if it happens) to watch my neice compete in the Worlds for Irish Step Dance, but plan to make it the excuse to have a great vacation - as she will probably only dance a couple days. Thanks! Becky

Give me a idea on your intrests and I'll suggest some place's you can visit. You can PM Me or Email if you like. Of course your very welcome in my home, would be nice. I would be happy to show you around My part of Bonnie Scotland.

Becky, here's a starting point, a place between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Mostly sport tourers like a Triumph 955i or Suzuki Bandit, prices from 69 Pounds to 90/day(although it looks like weeklies are discounted some)
AdMo
and here's one with a B&B included:
Bed, Breakfast and Bike
and one more...

I can't be much help with the crash bar........ It was on the bike when I bought it and the PO said it was a "take off" that he bought from the dealer. I do like the bar, it gives me two extra places to put my feet. I can put my toe on the peg on the bar, and my heal on my regular foot peg... or I can just put my foot all the way up on the upper peg. I don't plan to crash...... but does anyone ever plan to do that? I like the security for me and the bike. If I find out were it came from I will let you know.
