Who has ordered custom-length throttle cables? Did you use Bellacorse, NewSpeedmaster.com or go straight to Barnett? They don't list anything for Triumphs. I see a set listed on Bellacorse.com for about $175.
My throttle cable broke yesterday. I've always wanted to step up to braided stainless steel, but I figured I'd wait until either this happened or I decided to go with different bars. Well, both now apply, I just have to figure out what kind of bars I want. It used to be beach bars but I'm going to get away from the bagger look. Now I'm thinking pullback-style t-bars like the Euroshop bike.
I'd appreciate any feedback, tips, gotchas, etc.

Many moons ago, I talked directly to Barnett about building me a 4" over clutch cable. I had to send them my stock cable so they could match the mechanicals. I paid $50 plus shipping and gave them another $5 for priority (they build it within 24 hours of receipt) so I got it back in 5 days from the time I shipped. The cable is very good to excellent and has not given me a bit of trouble.
At that time, I enquired about throttle cables (was quoted $46 each but that may have changed) and here was the reply:
Phil, We will need you to send us your original throttle cables. We do have a print for these cables, but at this time we need to re-use the elbows on the original cables. Due to the increased demand for these cables, we are going to start making the elbows but it will be 30 days or so before the new elbows are made. Just send your cables to the following address along with any instructions you have regarding the length: Barnett Tool & Eng. Attn: Cable Dept. 2238 Palma Dr. Ventura, CA 93003 Chris Taylor Barnett Tool & Eng.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'll do it over the winter and I can save that $5 for priority shipping.

I got mine from BellaCorse. 4" over for use with the buckhorn bars. I bought the set which also had the clutch cable.
As far as gotcha's, on the cable that mounts with a threaded ferrule - the ferrule did not hold the cable solid, allowing it to flop around. I solved this problem by winding a length of thin solder under the ferrule, until it took up the slack and increased the clamping force. Trial and error. Other than that, they worked fine.

Friar-
F.W.I.W.
Bellacourse cables have been snaping alot. I broke a throttle cable in 2 months. He only replaces them after you send yours in and then he has a new one made and next thing you know, your out of cables for at least a month. (How do I Know)? Still waitng..........
I know alot of clutch cables have broke too from there. He blames it on the clutch adjustment not being done properly, but I personally believe that is not always the case.
If I could go back I would 100 trillion percent go with Barnett! That is the "Heavy Duty Model" from what I've gathered.

Darn, lost the reply. let's try again. Friar, Make your own, get the parts here: Flanders Cable stuff or here: Motion Pro Cable bits. Not that hard to make yourself actually. A local here had a set of the stainless cables from one of the vendors and they bled through the stainless and are now all blotched up with large black areas. look like turds now. He is gonna have Barnett make him some new ones this winter.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Good Friar, I do believe that you remember my clutch cable problems in Nelson this summer. Thanks to Freedom all ended well. That particular set of clutch and throttle cables came from Bellacorse. When I contacted Mike about the cable breakage he said to send it in for repair, and being a man of his word the cable was repaired and returned at no charge. The ss braided speedo cable is a Barnett item. I had to send them my oem cable so that they could salvage the ends to attach to the new cable. I don't remember the cost of the Barnett piece but maybe that is just selective memory. I have to stopped adding up the cost of the bling which adorns my yellow and black steed.
