I just had the peeling tank on my Speedmaster replaced. I noticed that the lining on the new tank is a brownish red color while the old liner was grey. Has anyone with brownish tank lining had any peeling problems or is it only the gray linings? In other words are my peeling tank liner days over?

thanks,
Hugh

My tank has a grey lining that is peeling. I think it started peeling after I put some Sea Foam carb cleaner in it, but I'm not really sure.
Was this peeling problem covered by the warranty?

The liner on my 2004 Speedmaster is gray.
The paint on the neck was bubling & the liner was peeling.
I installed a Kuryakin<butchered the spelling again>gas cap.
That took care of the neck.
The liner is really pealed.
I took the petcock out a couple times & cleaned the screen.

My 2005 TA is the brownish red. I guess they must have changed in 2005. I also have the Kuryakyn vented cap I got from Brent.

My 05 TBA Has a gray liner and it is starting to peal with only 875 miles on it!! Time to call the dealer! Anyone have any trouble getting it replaced? Do you have to go to the dealer where you bought it??

Hey Tom, I have the same bike, color, year and all. you can go to any dealer and mine was a non issue. I brought it in , they looked at it, 2 weeks later I had a new tank. The new primer is a rust color. I spoke with John in warranty. http://www.jacktrebourmotorcycles.com/

yes it was. I would normally not have replace it for the little amount it was peeling around the threads but I was concerned about the liner peeling later.

Looks like there was a transition period in the 05 models as mine is the brownish red. The actual manufacture date is marked on the bike 12/04 although I didn't buy it at the dealer until July 05.

05 Speedmaster, last 5 of the VIN 24453, built 12/04, with red lining. It has a few small chips around the tank opening, apparently where a fuel nozzle may have struck the paint, but no bubbling yet.
