Hi Boys! I´m Peter, from Slovakia. I want to buy pipes for my TBA, but in Slovakia I´m the only one who has TBA. So I have no chance to compare the afftermarket pipes... I like mainly the EPCO´s, Speciality Spares, Thunderbike pipes, but the I´m still not droped out the ´others´. Please help me and set up a loudness order among the aftermarket pipes! Off course I don´t want a precise order based on decibels. Its enough If some of you write down your opinions, experiences... Thanx!

Nice Sound, Loudest- Sceptres, Bubs Nice Sound, Real Loud- Epcos, Specialty Spares Nice Sound, Loud w/throttle- Thunderbike Pipes Some people like the sound, Not so loud- TORs
There is nothing scientific about this list. This is just what I've learned from visiting this site. The only ones I can speak for are the Specialty Spares and the Sceptres (both of which sound real nice, and are very loud).

So I've had the TBA for a month - comfortable enough now that it's time to change the pipes.
Put the Specialty Spares Long Slashes on with a UNI airfilter- went for a tool around the old 'hood.
Children crying, dogs howling and old women cursing. Thanks, Dale - they are everything you promised.
Next is jets & air injection gone.
Life is good - and by God I'm enjoying middle age! Hell, Canada even won the world curling championships today. (If you live in the South look it up - it really is a sport)
Back to the road - missed several streets!

Awe Ken, I've lived in Alabama most of my life, and I learned about curling very young. They'd do it down nair at the beauty shop every Sadidy morning. All 'em wimmin git t'gether and see who done the best curlin'. It's definitely competition, but I don't think I'd call it a sport!!! Seriously, When I was a kid, and The Wide World of Sports would come on - curling would glue me to the TV until another winter sport would come on. When we'd get one of our rare snows, I'd go get this round, smooth stone from the basement and push it, then run ahead of it with a broom. Sweeping like crazy until the stone stopped or I'd slip and bust my hind end. I had no way to score, but I was still a curling fool. I think that stone was an extra from someone's gravesite. I remember it being gray, flat & shiny on top, with rounded off edges. The other side was rough with sharp edges, so I slid it with the shiny side down. Oh well, a poor boy's got poor ways. peepee, The Triumph Off Roads (TORs) are a bit louder than stock, but there is no depth to the exhaust note. More of a "blap, blap, blap" sound. Dunstalls will give the best deep note, but are relatively quiet. I favor the SpecialtySpares. Dennis

It seems no one has D&D pipes. I have had mine since I bought the bike and love them. If you are looking for a good loud sound these are the way to go. Have ridden with other BA's and the closest thing to D&D's is the Scepters.

Yeah, it looks like I left D&Ds off my list, but bdrav is right. D&Ds are LOUD as well. I also left off Staintunes, but I think they are more in line with the Thunderbike pipes. I haven't heard them though, so maybe somebody with some experience with the Staintunes can help with where they fit in the order of things.

Ya I had the D&Ds on my TBA and they were alot louder than the Scepters I added,Blast has a set of Scepters on his Speedie but he has 20k plus miles on those and they are louder than the new Scepters I bought,I think the Megaphone style make a little more noise...............

PEEPEE, A couple of these exhaust manufactuers have a web site set up with an "audio" so that you can hear it. I know that Thunderbike does. Actually the audio was what finally convinced me to buy that brand. Buy the way, very satisfied with my purchase.

Jerry, thanx for the idea! But I have already all the ´sound materials´. What I can´t hear from these audio sequences is the absolut loudness of the several pipes. Therefore wanted I this ´loudness order´ from you...

Loud with throttle is right. I decided on the Thunderbikes after many hours of downloading sound clips and reading other posts. Also, Dinqua's write-up on them helped convince me. (By the way, I received them in Oklahoma just one week after ordering.) I like the deep tone at idle and the way they sort of let you sneek out of the neighborhood. Then cruisin down the insterstate at 60mph and could barely hear them over the wind, twisted the throttle and was up to 80mph in a blink (well maybe a couple blinks). They sounded like a V-8 on high octane. Love these pipes (so does the wife)!

Hi I have the Staintunes on my TBA and they sound great about in line with the Thunderpipes, the workmanship on these pipes is first class and they will last the life of your bike. thay have baffles you can remove so pop them out for loud, pop them in to tone it down. takes 3 mins to put in or out. Have a look on the Staintune web site, these pipes make a Triumph sound like a Triumph should. Safe Riding out there Herb

You guys use to have guys on here who could have a loud pipe discussion with out dragging in a bunch of argument about the morality of it.

Gutted long slash cut stock pipes sound a lot like Sceptres but a little louder and if the taper is cut off tapered stock pipes They are deep and loud but not quite as loud as the gutted slash cut pipes.

18 inch dumps are pretty loud. I am careful to not run up the RPMs in the neighbor hood.

I have the British Customs Bombers and really like them. I've had: - Long TORS; too quiet and poppy sounding. - Short TORS; I liked the way they looked but they were even "softer" sounding than the long tors, go figure. - Chevy 605 de-baffled stock; I like these, nice tone, but still a bit too loud to my ears. - Specialty Spares; they sounded great at idle and just lazy cruising, but man were they loud under heavy acceleration, and to me, a bit too raspy. - British Customs Bombers; I really like them. To me the best overall sound at idle, cruising, and accelerating. Loudness-wise just below the Chevy 605's.
I bought all these various pipes through the classifieds on here or eBay and got good deals, then eventually sold them here or on eBay and basically broke even. It was a drawn out process, but I'm very happy with my BC Bombers. They're stainless steel and I think they look really cool. One caveat is they mount to the holes on the bottom of the frame instead of using the factory mount which precludes you from having a center-stand. But that adds to their appearance in my opinion, and I don't ever plan on having a center-stand.
The BC Bombers are expensive. If you're on a budget I think de-baffled stock pipes or having Chevy 605 do it, is they way to go. He'll remove as many or as few baffles as you like. His "standard" set-up is what I got, 3 baffles removed, remaining 2 have 3 half-inch holes drilled in them.
Sound is very subjective, so take all this as one man's opinion.

Thanks for the comparison Pete! I appreciate your experience. Glad you're happy with them. I ordered a set last week and they should be here today. I had ordered BUB's but they were backordered so the super-nice folks at British Customs worked it out so it didn't sting so bad.

You'll really like them. I'm glad you got a good deal. I've never heard the Bubs first hand, but I think the BC's are probably not quite as loud which for me is a good thing since I already have some hearing issues from being a helicopter pilot in a prior lifetime!
