Question 1 on the ballot in Massachusetts:
Should Supermarkets be allowed to carry wine.
Now, my thought process is keep the wine sales for the local packies (packie n. (slang) - A liquor package store).
Thoughts? Opinions?

Sounds to me like favoritism and anti-capitalism. What are the liquor stores afraid of? (You know they are the ones behind the initial law banning supermarkets from carrying wine)
While in NC, I could not buy a two liter Pepsi in a liquor store!!! WTF? Had to go to the supermarket. Waste of time...

MA has too many old blue laws. Like you CAN buy beer on sundays if you are close enough to NH?!? Riiiight...
In Vermont you can get beer and wine at the grociery store. Not a big deal. Still have the packie. But it's been like that for a while. Any of these changes are only bad because they are a change, ya know? Not because of the real issue involved.

The real reason to keep it out of the grocery stores is to protect the liquor stores. Although I think it's easier for the liquor store attendents to keep the youngsters honest. I don't think it's really fair to expect the grocery checkers to card everyone. How do other states handle that? Every state's laws are different. I thought Minnesota's laws were really odd when I moved there. The package stores (they call them 'off-sale') close at 10:00 p.m., but the bars stay open until 2:00 a.m. You can't buy a 6 pack and take it home after 10, but you can sit in a bar far from home and get stinking drunk late into the night. Doh! How much sense does that make? Cody

In Australia we have both, also drive through bottle shops, probably thats why the alcohol intake per capita is one of the highest.

Having lived in MA for 39 years and then moving to NH for the last 3...It is my opinion that you should vote YES...PLUS there are ALREADY convienance stores (Not that this applies to them...yet) that sell beer and wine...Little peach (now Tedeshi's) in N Reading has been selling beer and wine for years....and this new law (for now) is limmited to wine...the "scare" ad's the Liquor stores are running are pure BS...I love the statistic the use where DUI cases are 600% higher in states with this law on the books....like having to go to the liquor store some how makes you not drink and drive....there are more liquor stores in N Reading MA then there are Dunkin Dog-nuts...and there are three of those...please these ad's are scare tactics to CYA...and "protect" their monopoly ...statistics are crap and can be twisted to suite any need but I would love to see the data which allowed them to come up with a 600% increase...and how they screwed it around to suite their needs!!!

Here the state supplies everything to the state booze stores. You can buy beer and wine in any store. Years ago in CA I remember all booze could be sold in stores. You would go into a store and they have a shopping card full of booze on sale. I would vote "yes" Dave

Always thought Camelot (the Kennedy state) was liberal, must not be the case with legislation like this.
Sure is nice to see another state government legislating what's good for us. It's comforting taking less responsibility for our own actions or the actions of our children. More time for TV.
98% of all statistics are useless (catch the irony). Vote yes and take back responsibility or the next thing you know the Kennedy's will be forcing you to wear a helmet for your own good....
.... wait a minute, AMA site say's you will wear one. Time to buy a skid-lid to circumvent the law.
To quote FZ. "... your mind is totally controlled, it has been stuffed into our mold, and you will do as you are told, until the rights to you are sold ..."
I apologize, I rarely get moody. Take advice from no one and make your own decision. Ah heck, that's advice! I'll be quiet now.

My favorite store here in the heart of the country is the ubiquitous "LIQUOR-BEER-AMMO" places out in the rural areas. Kinda covers it all don't you think?

Crazy a$$ liquor laws. Here in Illinois, we may not have any twisties but I can go to any liquor store, convenience store, grocery store, etc. and buy whatever the "F" I want. These "package" stores have always seemed odd and foreign to me. Don't get it. Regardless of where the stuff is sold the "man" still gets his cut. Not a problem asking anyone for an ID. You serve minors, you lose your license. PERIOD! Just like smokes. It's that simple. Some of our counties have the no alcohol sales 'til noon on Sunday laws but that's about it. Really sux when it is a noon start Bears game. GO BEARS!!!

Well thats one way to make the road twist.
