Gday all,
firstly , thanks for everyones input to this forum. It has made my homework real easier on deciding to buy the new Speedie as soon as it lands here in Australia in Jan/Feb 07.

Question.
Do you think the 07 is going to be the last of the Speedie's ?

Strictly WAG... The speedy name will become attached to the new 1500cc mid-range cruiser. Of course I'm just talking out my arse. But if I were Bloor, that's what I would do.

I think '07 will be the last year for the America. Unless Triumph does come out with a 1500cc cruiser and of course the Speedy will still be king of the roost.

As a 05 speedmaster owner I would buy the "07 for the upgrade forks and front wheel (polished) and the switch to the stock slash cut pipes other than that the 05 speedmaster is the perfect bike.

Does anyone happen to know what size wrench the 865 triumph engine spark plugs are. I have three plug sockets and none of them fit. It could be the wall thickness but never the less i need help in knowing what i need to get to do the job.

Thanks in advance,
Gary

There are rumblings over hear that the trades descriptions people are asking Triumph about the name - apparently after 07 its gonna be called the Slowwwwwmaster to reflect its true capabilities!

I would think the Speedmaster is in much less in danger than the America. It's just not "PC" to mention the name of the country that is supporting half the indigent people of the world and has saved the arse of just about every country on the planet at one time or another.

Why would they discontinue the America a year after doing a rather extensive redesign for '07???

They and the guy would discontinue TBA's and Speedmasters and whatever other bike they wanted to for one simple reason: to give all of us on the forum one more reason to conjecture, wag, swag, and otherwise decide what the next incarnation of our beautiful bikes will be. 1200, 1500, fuel injected, belt drive, chrome, black, slash cut or whatever. We have the need, desire and the time to provide the ideal focus group for Triumphs marketing team. Personally, I think it will be a 1500cc America with slash cut exhausts, more chrome, cast wheels, fuel injected and Goodwood Green and Silver!

Interesting observation... but I still can't see them discontinuing the America. 865cc is a good-size engine and the bike sells well, but yes there is a big void between the America and the Rocket. Lots of other manufactureres are selling the 90-100 cubic inch bikes and Triumph has nothing to match it inch-for-inch. Maybe a newer model will emerge to fit the bill, and keep the America? Just my opinion, but I would think they'd add to the family before they cancel a model since cruisers are the popular thing nowadays...

IMHO I think the America and Speedy will be around a couple more years minimum. Triumph production costs are much lower with all the classic series, 2 cruisers and the scrambler using the same basic Parellel Twin engine. They have limited resources and plugging a whole new bike and power plant into the mix will increase the production cost. If they do add a new bike I hope it's better looking than the Rocket.

Take a close look at the the two new bikes. They are almost completely identical now. Similar things happened towards the end of the T-Bird, Legend and Adventurer. Only the T-Bird managed to survive and that was only as the T-Bird Sport. The America may be around a couple more years. But, watch the evolution. The two bikes may become the same bike. When they do one of two things will happen; the Speedmaster will become the rumored 1500 (or so) cruiser so the America will live on as the 865; or the America will dissapear. I say it will be the America that will dissapear because it is the older name of the two bikes.
