Avon recommends that you go down to a 100\90-18 tire on the front of the Americas when replacing the stock tire with the AM41 Avon Venom. There seems to be enough room in the front fender area to allow a 120\90-18 tire to fit instead of the 100 they recommend. Anybody know for sure?? If it does fit, will it affect handling much?

I think you might have to end up trimming the brace inside the fender, that is a lot closer than the fender itself, I tihnk whoever put white walls on had this issue... I have the smaller Avon on and love the handling, but having sometihng nice and close to the fender sure would look good!

It will fit, but with that size front tire you will run into two issues. The first is you will have to modify your front fender bracket to keep the tire from rubbing at highway speeds and the 2nd is it will throw off your speedometer. Mine reads about 5-7 mph slower then my actual speed...

I wonder if my slightly smaller tire actually corrected the usual speedo error?

About 10k or so... Sounds about right. I did both front and rear at the same time just for consistancy...

Hi Ben,
The smaller front tire should have increased your speedometer reading, since the wheel is turning more rpm to cover same distance. Do the speedos read 10% faster? Or 10% slower than actual speed? I am getting a larger front tire to go with my reduced size back tire to improve handling in the corners.

Good point... Oh well, I know the thing is off... I'm more of a "flow of traffic" kinda guy anyway so I usually assume it errs on the side of caution as far as speed goes. I'll have to go out sometime and have my girlfriend tail me in her car and see what she says...
