How loud are the the long slash cuts? I've heard a few sound bites and they don't sound too bad with the baffles in. For the record, I like loud pipes, but I usually leave for work around 5-6 am and would rather not wake up the entire neighborhood. Currently I've got the newer (louder?) TOR's. Like them quite a bit but am considering a change just for something different. Occaisionally see SS pipes on eBay for a decent price and was curious.

Don't overly concern yourself with the neighbors. They deserve a little reminder that they're sleeping their lives away when they could be riding.

I have had a pair for a couple of years now, and had no complaints. I frequently leave early or get home after midnight with my job, and I usually kinda coast in, so they're not so loud. Like 69Bonney said, unless you really get on the throttle, they're not going to bother anyone. My biggest concern is warming it up with the choke on, but they're not as loud as a lot I've heard. Besides, they're great pipes and they made a big difference in performance, IMHO.

I love the way they look on the bike as well as how they sound. I've never riden with the baffles out - they sound great and loud enough with them in. They have a great throaty sound. After 6000 miles they are a bit louder (especially at high rpms) than when new, but if you want to quiet them down, it's very easy to add additioinal baffling material. I got to compare the SS with both older and newer TORs before buying and the SS blew them away. Plus, as I said before, they look better. I've never had a complaint, but have gotten lots of compliments. Here's a pic of the bike taken 8/05 after installing.

You can get a good deal directly from SS (Dale) on Ebay RIGHT NOW on the long cannons or the Short Slash cuts...the shorts are only about 5" shorter than the long's are...the would come to about the rear axle bolt in the above photo
I have them (and got them on ebay from Dale) and LOVE them!

According to their web site, the short slash cuts are 10" shorter (30" vs. 40") and slightly louder than the long slash cuts. Here's their web site: Specialty Spares

Sorry I was thinking the stock TOR's they are 10" shorter...Ron (fishercat) has the longs on his and they seem to project beyond the tire...not where yours are Bob...perhaps there was some mid length for some time...as far as the loudness...I didn't notice any significant difference between my shorts and Rons longs...

Love my Long Cannons. Pulled about 30% of the packing off my baffles. Just ride and no neighbor problems. Yank the baffles and scare everyone.

They've held up beautifully as well, welds, etc. I wish SS would come out with America header pipes.

I removed 1/2 of the baffling and drilled holes in the back of each baffle. They are louder, but not crazy loud. As some have stated, when you get on the throttle, they scream.
Good luck.

I have had the D&D rev cones. Sold them to free up some cash and find something different. They sound great but I was looking for a deeper tone. Now running America stockers with all the baffels removed- except the difussers. Very happy all the way around. Nice deep tone. Like the others say, not awful at idle, and they roar when you open them up. I get lots of compliments on the sound of my bike.

I have the SS Short Slash Cuts and love them. Plenty loud. I coast the bike down the street and start and let it warm up while coasting (about 1/4 mile). Plenty warm by then and just drive slow the rest of the way out of the housing development. I leave at 6:00 AM and don't want to upset the neighbors. They are loud when you get into the throttle, but sound good to me. Performance gain was good. Will be installing the Freak over the winter.

Mole- they're not on ebay right now, but here's Dale's email address. nortonbsa@att.netI bought them from him after the ebay ad expired. BTW, where's Parker in relation to Evergreen? Got a bud there that rides a R3.

Thanks Blackdog! I'm currently in one of those, "should I buy..can I buy..what will my wife say....can't really afford it" modes, so looking for a deal! Parker is south of Denver on hywy 83, so about 40miles away from Evergreen. Very nice rides around Evergreen!
