Hi:
I am interested in anybody that may use or know of someone that have mufflers from 'D & D Exhaust', how they sound and jetting or problems if any. I purchased the 'off-road' pipes when I purchased my '06 America this summer and really don't care for the sound they make. I heard that D&D are nice pipes, I contacted them in Texas but they do not have any sound clips.
Thanks

Kevin,
I’ve had D&D’s on my bike for about 4 years now. They’ve held up really well and have never turned “goldâ€Â. Just soap and water to clean them. They have a really deep and loud sound to them and seem to sound better with age. When I bought them they came with pilot jets only, which you will need to install. If you haven’t done so already make sure you also remove the A.I. Since you are in Edgewater you are not far from me so if you want to hook up sometime to hear them let me know. I’m usually riding all over the area during the weekends. Also you might want to slide by Clinton Cycles in southern Maryland if you want to hear other pipes. Jake in sales has Scepter's on his TBA and Kasey runs Epco's without baffles on his.

Thanks for the update, I was beginning to think no one had D&D's. I have been to Clinton Cycle but its been awhile, I picked up my TBA in June from Pete's in Baltimore, Clinton didn't have the Mulberry Red at the time. Love the bike. We ride on the weekends too, mostly southern AA County. I like to hear your mufflers, are they the 'megaphone' type?

I run D&D's on my '03 BA. They are reverse megaphones and sound perfect to me. Some members here say they are too loud, but not for me. I removed the AI and replaced the air filter with a UNI. Runs strong and does not sound like a Hardley.

Nice looking ride! I would like to meet up sometime soon and see the bike in person. When it stops raining of course!

I concur. It was Gene's (Fred) ride that convinced me to trade-in my '77 Bonnie for a BA purchase. I fell in love with his bike on the old forum and it was the first BA I saw up close at a Clinton Cycles open house. Never heard it run though. I do remember thinking these bikes are much smaller than depicted in photos. Once again, nice job Gene (Fred).

I've heard Fred's bike... it sounds awesome! Stunning to see in person as well. It's a beautiful bike.

I'm a newbie and I just bought an 04 SM with the D&D's. I am pretty happy with the way they sound...meaty enough to show off the true soul of this bike, but not so loud that they are obnoxious. What size main jets were supplied with them? I have the original jets (120) and pilot (42) in a baggie. One thing I have noticed is that the decel pops a little bit, but some times at start-up, it back-fires once pretty loud in a pipe. Should I put the 42 pilot jets back in? If I open the mixture up a 1/4 turn (from 3), it tends to run too rich at idle.

I also have D&D eshaust on 2005 TBA. Turned screws back 3 turns and 130 jets installed. I too get some popping on decel and now and again a backfire at start (love it when it happens in a prking lot full of people!!). I run stock filter and air box but have considered some changes to hopefully help this popping and occassional backfires. Any suggestions are welcome.

Fred, Your bike is awesome. What tires, lightbar, visors and seat are on your ride?

Maxxis whitewalls, Triumph lightbar, Corbin seat and the visors are by Kustom Krome.

Andy,
When I first installed the D&D’s with the pilots that came with them (they didn't come with main jets), I had a lot of back-fires on decel until I removed the AI. Once that was removed the loud back-fires disappeared. I have to admit though I missed them at first. They were loud enough at times to make people who were close by duck thinking they were being shot at….

I also run D & D's. I run 130 mains with the stock 42 pilots. It has been my experience that the 45 pilots cause a bit of a hard start problem and do seem to cause more popping on the over run..my air screw are out at 3 1/4 turns. AI removed, stock paper filter, 06 America 790 engine.

Make sure you leave the throttle alone when starting the bike. Their not like the old bikes that required a twist or two before kicking them. Don't touch the throttle until choked RPM's are at their maximum. Mine would back-fire occasionally until I broke myself from this old habit. Just an idea.....

Kevin,
I have to cruise out to the Bowie/Crofton area early Saturday afternoon. If you want to try to hook up for a quick meet on Saturday let me know and I can hook up with you somewhere out that way. Let me know.
Also if you are interested, a few of us are heading up to Skyline Drive Sunday. I put up a post in the rides section….

Kevin,
I’m glad we were finally able to meet up. Nice meeting you, you’re son and your friends. Hoped you like the sound of the D&D’s. I don’t think you will regret your choice if you go with them. Mine are 4 years old and as you saw they’ve held up really well.
