Bit the bullet and paid for the factory tacho. This was my first time doing anything to the bike (or any bike for that matter). When I put the dash back on, there was about a 1mm space between the dash and the tank. I can't remember if the dash was flush to the tank before I put the tach in. Does anyone's dash sit flush? It's awfully crowded under the dash with the tacho in and I'm wondering if water will get in there.
Thanks.

Yes, the dash sits above the tank with a gap. Water is not an issue.

Hey Mike, Did you get the Thunder Bike Pipes yet? If the console fit tighter, it'd rub the paint.

You can get U shaped rubber moulding that'll fit around the edge of the console to fill that gap and give it a more "finished" look.
Also be sure that the tacho's sitting in it's hole properly... if you get the wiring caught between the back of the tacho and the tank it can push the tacho up slightly... it's a bit fiddly but you can fit all the wiring in so it doesn't push on anything.

Took the word out of my mouth, however I have searched high and low for that U shaped rubber weather stripping. Finally found some online, but not in a store. I'd like to see it before I buy it. Anyone know a source? I am no capable of some basic sheet metal fab, and that would make nice edging...

I used the stuff that came with my Triumph screen and it fits perfectly and looks very nice. Yhis is another example of something that should come on the bike stock. Maybe you can find a part# for it soomewhere?

I got it from a chain in Australia called "Clark Rubber"... they sell rubber bits, cut-to-shape foam, above ground swimming pools etc.

Not for me Charlie. I'll be in Atlantic City trying to pay for those pipes. Enjoy.

Hey Benny,
You should be able to find the rubber moulding at any chain auto parts store. I got mine at Autozone. It's been a few years now, but I think they called it door trim and it's very cheap, less than $10. Mine's about due to be replaced. Since it comes in I think about a 6 foot length, I'll send you some of my leftover.
Btw, when I went to the Smoke Out, The Horse was giving away about the last year of back issues of the magazine so I got that issue I sent you.

Sweet glad you got that issue!!
I have gotten some of that door trim but I thought it was more of a hard plastic, like the chrome trim around my tank... I was looking for more of a soft rubber type deal. I'll poke around again tho.

Hmmm...wondering why the need for soft rubber instead of the harder door trim? If you're worried about scuffing the tank, don't. I've had mine on for over 3 years now and it hasn't left any marks on the tank.

I dunno I guess that is just what I always pictured... Someone sent me a scrap of the windhield trim a long time ago and it was softish.

A follow up on the new tacho: I was way short shifting. I had no idea how much headroom I had. Very glad I got it.

It's been said about a million times in here...these bikes like to rev. I was cruising down the interstate yesterday doing about a real 75 mph or so, which was around 4200 rpm with my 17/41 sprocket setup. The bike just purrs along at that rpm, like it was made to run at that speed. I always seem to be running around 4,000 RPM or a little over in 4th and 5th gears. There's a sweet spot in that range that my bike just seems to like.

Couple of times overflowed tank when fueling. Gas would run out from under "nacelle". Wonder if water would gather under there if sealed up too well.

If I remember correctly, I told you this the first time I met you for a ride. Just wait 'til you get the TBikes on, you'll wind it up to hear the roar. You're gonna love 'em!

I thought of that too Lonzo. Maybe the hard door trim is the way to go since it doesn;t make a good seal?

You did, and I tried to fight the tendency to shift, but it just sounded like the engine was working so hard. Now I know better. I'm easily tooling up to 40 in second and shifting to third at 5000 rpms. So much more zip. Can't wait for the Thunderpipes.

"Almost there" Seriously tho I would guess 65 in second to be well north of 7k.
