A seller on eBay said he replaced is stock front fork springs with some progressive springs. I don't like the way my front end dives when I use the front brake, and this sounds like a good fix. Does anyone know where they can be found?

Good, cheap mod. You will notice a difference. The new springs will expose the poor rear shocks. Progressive makes a 412 & 440 (expensive) shock for the rears.

I am having a problem navigating their site. I will just call them when I am ready to buy. The prices look good. Thanks again.

Bob, do a quick search for progressive here, and maybe in the vault, and I bet you'll find all kinds of part numbers.
OK I'll throw you a bone on this one
Here is the submission in the vault for suspension

Thanks for your help. From what I can tell they don't make springs for the America exactly but the part # posted is one that works well. I think it crossed to a Kawasaki. I went to progressive's web site and they listed a spring for a Truxton, but not the America.

I have the 2002 Triumph Bonneville America, and installed the Progressive Front Fork Springs, # 11-1145 a couple of months ago and they work perfectly. It is definitely one of the very best upgrades you can do for your bike. Handling is much much better than stock. Just install them identically (both with the tighter coils up, or both with the tighter coils down).

A part #, with a testimonial..... Now we're talkin! Did you use the same weight fork oil? I don't feel alot of damping when I push on the forks sitting still.

Frank, I was being a doof. The way Progressive takes you thru the site they start you out with the year, and I wasn't paying attention to what you were telling me. I found the listing for America.

I replaced my fork oil at the same time. I put in stock weight, 10W, Spectro brand but later learned a combo of 10W & 15W is the better ticket. No drains on forks, you either suck it out, or pull the fork tubes and drain (pretty easy). I had my forks off for polishing at the time.

I was just sitting here thinking that I didn't remember seeing any place to drain them. Time to break out the Mighty Vac.

SalMaglie wrote, Unscrew the fork caps(being careful by putting your hand over the nut, because they can spring out like a Jack-in-the-box), Take out the old springs using a coat hanger with a little hook bent on the end, and put in the new ones. There's also a spring seat and a spacer on top of the the springs, so watch out for those and remeber which order they go back in)If you aren't close to a required fork oil change(24,000 miles or 4 years), I wouldn't sweat it. If you want to try the 15w fork oil, then it's more involved. Best to get a shop manual if you don't have one, and you don't feel all that sure of what you're doing. If you're confident, then you'll want to take the forks off, drain the oil into a pan. Measure out 548cc(18.5 oz) of fork oil and pour it in. Then pump the fork a few times to get any trapped air out of the oil. Fully compress the fork, and then let it sit a few minute to stabilize. Use a wooden dowel(found at any good hardware store), and stick it down inside the fork till it dips into the oil. Holding the dowel firmly against the edge of the fork tube, take a Sharpie and mark it at the top of the inner fork tube. Remove the dowel and take a tape measure and measure the distance from the Sharpie mark to where the dowel starts to get wet with oil(like a dipstick on a car). The distance should be 166mm(6 1/2"). It's better to slightly underfill than to overfill as more oil means more pressure in the forks which can blow the fork seals, and you don't want to have to change those out. If you have too much oil in, take a Turkey baster found at any grocery store, and remove a bit of the oil till you get the correct amount.

The issue with replenishing the fluid is one of off vertical and displacement. The progressives displace more oil. The tube must be vertical for correct height measurement. Simply removing the fluid and replacing it without fork removal is flying by your pants. Works for most people...

Great Bay Great Bay Motorcycles has the Progressives you are looking for on their site. They also carry the lowering Progressives that I bought when I went with the 11 1/2" 412's for the rear.

Except I find that I get better service from Bike Bandit than Great Bay. Still a little pissed about that TBS needle thing.

that's a note to every retailer. with ba and speedmaster stuff, there is a captive audience. ship stuff wrong, get gruff on the phone, don't support stuff YOU sell but is REALLY just dropped shipped, and people will know about it. and act accordingly.

Jeez Moe, you're embarassing me. Progressive fork springs, my favorite mod for the money. Did it 25,000 miles ago and wish I'd done it sooner. Got 45,000 miles on now and still smiling. Started to break in a new tire today. Riding season 2 has just started in the desert. Supposed to be 84 on Sunday for my trip to Tombstone. Wish I could have another along Speedmaster riding shotgun.

Hi Guys - I used Progressive front and rear on my Speedy. 2" lower in front with a 1" taller tire, and 1" shorter rear shock. Handles great. Tommy

Thanks everyone for helping me spend my $50.00 cash bday gift from my Mom (she is in her late 70's). You know, when I get a gift like that I feel like a teenager gettin giddy trying to spend some cash! . Anyway, order placed for some springs!
