Don't touch it ! It IS the TPS and it's said that if you remove it you will screw it up somehow and the carbs will have to be replaced. I may be wrong but thats what i have read so i'm telling you this so you don't mess with it untill someone can verify i am wrong. till then don't even unscrew it.

I don't know what the wire is about, but I like your screened cheese grater. Is there a K&N behind it?

Arlan,
Nice screened cheese grater effect! Might have to borrow that one from you!
The TPS. Lots of threads on that one. Some have rotated the TPS to advance the timing. Any set of aftermarket carbs will not have use for it so the criticality of it is debatable. True, you cannot buy one if yours get messed up, but who cares? Some folks have disconnected it all together.

Arlan, As far as I can remember, that screen idea is a whole new thing and already seems pretty well accepted. I'll be spending the afternoon at work scouring for a few scraps of my own. Nice addition!

How cool would it be if the cheese grater WAS the air cleaner?
Sorry - had a nostalgia moment there

Thank for the compliments, I wasn't expecting that. I did this small detail because it looked unfinshed. Same with the fins and spark plug covers .Orange boots did not cut it.They could have pick another color, looked out of place.

I remember when I first brought my America home and started taking stuff off. Looked for air filters, sure was dissappointed to see they were fake.

People who buy these bikes are inspired to 1) take stuff off, 2) put stuff on, or 3) invent new stuff (like Brent, Eddy et al ).
I think the "stuff" process starts somewhere between the ink drying and arriving back at the homestead .
