Just bought an 02 America and it needs a passenger backrest. Will anything else besides a Triumph brand fit? Thanks for any suggestions.

There's a Aussie unit that Brent sells, and some have used a unit that bolts on and is supported only by the rear mud guard. One such backrest is an after market and some have used a Harley unit that is similar. But I know of no one who's gotten something that mounts and looks like the OEM unit. The problem is in the mounting brackets and how they straddle the mudguard bracket. The only remaining option is to fab your own. Some have done it with reasonable success. I tinkered with one for a while & opted to go with the Triumph rest. Its a bit pricey, but I'm quite satisfied.

Welcome to the club! I have the Triumph tall backrest and like it fine, so I can't help you there, but welcome to the club here. You will find a lot of help and interest here.
