Just want to see how many MPG.... or....MPL members are getting. The PO put in some richer jets in my bike and I am getting 40 mpg, not much more. I was thinking it would do better.

Hiya Bob
I've never really worked out mpg etc, just on what I get to reserve.
Best = 150 (riding like your gran)
Worst = 99!!!! (VERY windy motorway ride on full throttle @ just 80 mph!)

havn't figured exact mpg yet but, have to hit resevre rignt around 130..but that's completely stock, mostly secondary roads and a lot of stop and go in town riding.Very little slab time.

2 weekends ago I went to 148mi and then refueled without hitting reserve. That was 2 up, and haulin balls on the highway on the return trip - I think I was drafting off the mom in the minivan

I used to hit reserve normally around 130 or so. On a long run....145ish,....once I got it to 154. But then bombing it to meet Ade and Paul it was 116...I think that was the lowest.

I am pretty consistent at 33-35 mpg. I have gotten closer to 40 on all highway runs when I take it easy on the throttle.

I've done between 100 and 140 miles to reserve. Also figured between 35 and 42MPG. Alot of factors come into play. Mileage dropped going to the 45/135 jets, and the UNI, but she runs great!
Just my observations, Uncle Charlie

I've done everything between 98 to 147 before reserve. All depends on how hard I am twisting the throttle...

'06 TBA - Black, AI and Snorkel removed, K&N Drop In, Gutted Stock Pipes, 145/42, 2 turns out.

Got back from a 1500 mile 2-day trip last night. Overall mileage was just over 41 with mostly high speed riding. Going across Canada back in June it was getting 50 mpg doing 65 or less. Looks like speed is a really big factor for me.

That's quite a range reported. My bike is right there in the lower middle. I only went to reserve once on my trip home, and I think that was at 135. It would be interesting to know how some bikes do so much better.

Best is 47 or so on the back roads under 70 mph taking it easy. Around town and pushing it 40 or so. All with a Memphis Fats and extended lowers 132 mains, open airbox, 17/42 sprockets.

After 6000 miles, I get 35-45 mpg. 35 maybe all around town, 2- up etc. and 45 all highway solo. Miles to reserve can be 120-150 based on the milage situation. Also, I now fill with the bike level to the inner ring. I used to get less per tank when I filled to the same ring with the bike on the kick stand.

I'm getting 32/42 miles per US gallon on regular gasoline. I weigh 325 lb, and I'm sure I'd get better mileage if I was smaller.

During hot summer months I get around 47 mpg. Now that I am riding in 30 degree (F) weather again, it dropped to 43.59 mpg. This winter I will adjust valves and do other work that may help. I have a little over 14K miles on her now.

I usually get about 46mpg with Thunderbike pipes and no other mods. Did get 51mph recently while riding slowly (<65mph) with a buddy getting back into motorcycling.

50-55 MPG. I do mostly city commuting to and from work and hit reserve in the mid 150's to low 160's depending on how I drive.
I have done no engine mods not even a snorkel removal which I think attributes to much of the poor gas mileage I see posted on this and other sites. No biggee...if you want the performance and don't mind the tiney hit in gas go for it!

I agree that performance mods do cut back on mileage. Removing the snorkle after the mods didn't make any difference, but I wouldn't trade the additional performance for better mileage and I bet most others wouldn't either. I only lost about 5 mpg by opening up the exhaust and rejetting.

My mileage is about the same after the mods, but the performance is much better.

Most of the "basic" performance mods...pippes, intake(filter/snork) jets (to a point) should actually INCREASE your milage...you are letting the engine breathe easier...this should help by making it so it doesn't have to work as hard...but you get to a point where the returns start to diminish (mileage wise) and you start to eat more fule...with the set up I have I have found my mileage is MUCH better...On the trip to the NorthEast I put in FAR LESS fule than Dill did at each stop...same terrain, speed, and so on...but then I do have that 18 tooth front sprocket...but I had it before some of the other mods and my milage is better still...and we're not talking about a 1/4 gal difference between dills ride and mine....we're talking about more than a gallon diff.

This is the way I see it. So long as you don't change to some wild cam dynamic, all you really have is flow characteristics, jetting and ignition timing. I haven't even looked into the how the timing advance curve is preformed on this ignition but I have a feeling it has to do with the throttle position sensors. I will be interested to get a manual and learn more about how the BA ignition ticks. My gut tells me some bikes have more advance than others. The bikes with more advance at cruising speed get better mileage...... anyone?

I don't think anyone takes the speedo into consideration. I have tested 4 BA/SM's and the best was off by 10%. Two of them by 13 and 14%. Thats quite a bit in my opinion. My SM is not stock but I do not have the exact specs on jets etc. I averaged 130 to reserve but since I took the belt off and went with the 16 tooth sprocket I average 145.

Speedos are deff off but the odometer's are not!...I'm sure it has somthing to do withe the spring/gearing on the speedo...but someone who knows more will pipe in!

Yes! that is exactly what I found with my bike. The odometer was right on.......... speedo not so good. On my trip home with the bike I couldn't figure out why everybody was passing me when I was going 80! I arrived at my destination an hour and half late........... I ordered my manual last night...
