Can anyone point me to the thread that describes how to build a home made balancer? I saw it recently but can't seem to find it.

Could you explain how you get the (I'm gonna use ATF) fluid into the hose?

Thanks Dazco, I have that web site and I have all the bits to make one I was just wondering how to fill the tubing. I remember seeing a post on this and I remember whoever it was used ATF in the tubing I just can't relocate that post.

You could use a squeeze bottle with a narrow tip. After you get fluid in, use the same bottle empty to get the fluid sorta balanced with air pressure. Snap it a few times with your fingers to settle the air out. Voila!!!

I stuck one end of the tubing in the tranny fluid bottle, and sucked on the other end of the tubing until I had a foot or two of fluid in the line.
(One has to be fairly secure in their hetero sexuality to admit that )
I believe it's crucial to create an equal restriction on both sides of the line, or two things happen:
1 - All the fluid gets sucked out by the left carb, especially if the AI is freshly removed
or
2 - There is so much bounce that it's tough to lock into a reading that won't climb on one side.
I found some plastic tubing couplers in the fastener section of my local hardware store that are multi fit - they start out small, and one snaps off the smaller bores as needed. I do believe the small sections could make a sound means to creating equal line restriction within the home made balancer. I tried wall board lags with limited success.

there was a post on here, that's how I made mine. I used LJ's method to fill the tube then let it hang over night. the next day the fluid was equal in both tubes and all the air was gone from the fluid. mike

Kenny, What Martin is talking about is putting restrictors in the tubes to limit the amount of vacuum pressure. You must do this or even a little imbalance in the carbs will get all of the fluid sucked into the higher vacuum carb fast. Don't even ask.... Did you ever find out what size your main jets are?

Phil, I just installed the ss carb screws, that is all but two the two on the inside bottom left. I could not get them out and I didn't want to pull the carbs off to do it so they will wait until I have to remove the carbs, or until the Ga. rally. So, now I will open up the right carb and see what size jet is in it and I will let you know.

I made one also, if you use the lenght of about 20 feet you shouldn't have a problem with the fluid being sucked out. I have used mine several times and no problems. It worked great! Scott

I made one with two glass bottles, about 15 ft of 1/4 in. ID tubing two black corks, water and food coloring. Take the two large mouth bottles doesn't matter what size and get two corks that fit tight. Drill two holes in each cork. Actually I burned them through, wife did not care too much for this!! Fill bottles with about 1 inch of colored water. Cut three pieces of hose, two long and one short. Put one hose that runs to the bottom of each bottle this is the long one that attaches to the carbs. Run a second short hose that just enters the bottles. This connects the two bottles together. Make sure that there is not enough liquid to fill either bottle to the top. This will ensure that no liquid gets in the carbs. Now all you have to do is hookup, grab some brew and figure out how to adjust without burning your hands. When the liquid is equal in both bottles your done.

I am always amazed with my continued confusion. To make the carb balancer, it's the short tube between the two jars that goes to the bottom. The long tube just clears the stopper. This are the tubes that go to each carb. I made them long so the jars can be placed on something thus making sort or an air gap to add insurance that no liquid gets in. Remember this will freeze so take appropiate precautions.
