Sitting at a redlight friday night with my wife driving: a pick-up in front of me is cursing and screaming out his window at the Neon in front of him. The Neon is going straight and he wants to turn right. He bumps the neon and a petite young lady gets out of the Neon with a what the heck look on her face. I could not here her, but her body language said "Bring it on, old man." The next thing I see is him charging her. He slams her into her car with a shove that would have knocked her over but for the car. I dash(well, for an old fat guy it was a dash) out and calmly escort the guy back to his truck. Another guy and 2 ladies also jumped in to help. The guy puts his truck in gear and I tell him he's not going anywhere. He glared at me and then looked away and shut it off. The law cuffed him and took him away with an assault charge. This dufus was in his 50's. I smelled no booze, so I guess he was just an idiot. Please be careful out there: they are everywhere! She was okay?
EVERYDAY I ask myself "What the hell is wrong with people?"
My sister in law once had a guy throw a hot cup of coffee at her as he passed.

Way to go, Mike.
What a moron. Right on red was not always legal here, and now people want to act like it is illegal to go straight from the right lane, and stop at red lights.
Most of these idiots hardly slow down anymore when they are going right on red. Like the green light people are supposed to yield to those that want to turn out in front of them.
I have an intersection I go through each morning where I have to make a left trun, from a left turn only lane, then a hard immediate right turn onto the freeway frontage road. The left turn lane backs up between signals, and it never fails that 1-2 idiots will zip up there in a "straight ahead only" lane and try to make that left turn. Talk about chaos! And where is the law? No where to be found. And from what I understand, if one of these fools caused an accident (as I am sure happens every day), the law won't even write a citation! They let the insurance companies subrogate it out! So my rates, (and yours) go up, and we all suffer.
ENFORCE THE LAWS!

First got to say good going mike, second gotta say I believe you did the right thing.....but people have gotten shot doing the right thing. And this guy was obviously a nut case.
I agree with Kieth the cops need to start enforcing some laws, I was standing in line at the local DMV about a month ago and noticed a sing saying "Warning Connecticut agressive driving laws, Aggressively inforced" I thought to my self bull***t and almost busted out laughing. When my turn came up I asked the person doing my papers if the sigh was some kind of joke. He actually got offended.(guess he dont drive much).
Point is there are some good laws out there designed to protect me and you from the A$$holes. But apparently the local constabulary has not gotten the word.
In Ct now it is illegal to use a hand held Cell-phone and drive. Yet I see that all the time. it is also illeagal to "tailgate" yet watch as the parade of cars wizz past the parked state trooper on Rt 66. At 65 bubmper to bumper. Hes (the trooper is) usually parked by the sing that says. "Speed Limit 45 strictly enforced".

I wated thru 3 light cycles today for only about 10 cars because the road I was crossing was packed up. So when their light would turn green, they flood the intercection even tho there was nowhere to go, so they are blocking MY lane when MY green comes on.
I contemplated honking at them, but figured I wouldn't want to be the recipient of physical road rage....
I hope that girl is ok!!

And Benny, right next to that intersection blocked up with cross-traffic was probably a sign saying "$DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION: $250 FINE"

Philadelphia and New York (I'm sure there's more - I just have not noticed) have very high penalties for "blocking the box" or pulling into the intersection on a green light even when you know you can't get out of the way before the light changes. They posted signs and painted a crosshatch pattern in "the box" and ticketed heavily in the beginning. It works very well. I have had people honk at me for not going into the intersection. I just point to the sign and laugh. I usually wave and smile too.

I worry for my wife alot. She is a very cautious driver and drives a little slower than most. She doesn't do this to tick anyone off, she just doesn't feel comfortable driving fast. Unfortunately there are so many people in such a hurry these days that they take her caution as a personal insult. She has had to endure jerks flicking her off, passing in no passing zones and then slamming on their brakes to scare her, screaming out their windows at her and generally behaving as though they were the only car on the road that matters. She has had the satisfaction though, of seeing several of these jerks receive tickets when they whipped around her and took off down the road right in front of a speed trap or policeman who just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I just wish that people who are prone to acting like this would realize that their actions may cause an accident or injury to others that I am sure they would regret after the fact.

The cell phone hands free law in CT is a joke I have seen many STATE POLICE OFFICERS TALKING AWAY ON THEIR CELL PHONES. Just today while driving for work a woman merging on to the Merritt Pkwy talking away not looking as she merged. Did not see or even look at me. And the state rep who initiated the cell phone bill says "its working well." Speaking of traffic laws several times while riding TBA I have attempted to keep up with speed of traffic once I get up to 80 + mph I just give up. Speed is good but I don’t want a $200 ++ ticket. Also I believe in CT driving over 80 is considered reckless driving and is a criminal not traffic offence. I select my speeding points very well, one must know where the police set up radar. Rt 8 N, north of Thomaston, good place to burn up the hill, but be ware after the crest of the hill 7 times out of 10 Statie will be waiting. Rt 8 N near exit for 118 nice place to run up the speed but be ware also Staties like to sit just past the over pass next to on ramp if not careful they GOT U. Plus one thing new several police dept park empty cursers in select places. In New Haven on the Boulevard just north of Libbys cycles. RIDE SAFE!!

Maybe in NYC, but not on the island.... I am amazed at how different people drive here than in the city.

My dad is one of those too. His is more of an old school "The speed limit is for ideal conditions!" kind of fixation, but to each his own. My only "flip-side" to that is if you are going way slower than the flow of traffic, you are officially an obstacle. Right or wrong, should or shouldn't doesn't matter. It is the truth. I don't know your wife, but in my dad's case, he goes well below the speed limit on an interstate a LOT (anyone ever go 50 on I684 south of Brewster? Scary...). I am fine with not speeding, but if you are too scared to at least go close to the speed limit, you should get on the hiway... My MSF instructor said "If you're not ready to get up and run with the big boys in the left lane, stay off the hiway.
That being said, there is no need for the finger, or reckless driving or whatever, just go around and move on.

I guess that's the way it was intended. But I take speed limits to be more like guidelines than actual rules. I certainly agree with you about keeping close to the limit though.

The young lady was okay. She was from the north side of Chicago(a Cub fan used to being abused?). She was down here in the south suburbs going to her fiance's place(getting married in 2 weeks). I hope he let her know that it would have been safer to just turn right and get out of way of the nutjob. She put herself and her helpers in a possibly dangerous situation by getting out and confronting said nutjob. When it was over and I got back in the car I noticed my hands were shaking. I didn't think of what might have happened till it was over. Adrenaline lasts a little longer than required. Mike Sr.

Yeah the way it was intended for road conditions and vehicle capabilities in the 50's...

I succumb to road rage myself sometimes, but I never act on it. There are a lot of 2 lane roads around here that are 45 mph. You can go 20-30 miles without a passing zone and when you get behind one of these people who do only 30 and hit the brakes on every hill and bend, it can get real frustrating real fast. If you look in your mirror and there is one moron riding your bumper it is probably him who has the problem. But if there's 12 vehicles lined up behind you, it's time to either pull over and let them by or press just a leeeeetle bit harder on that right pedal.....
That is a common problem here in my beloved mountains... some people will pull over to let you pass so you can at least go fast enough to keep the bike upright without having to use outriggers.. but most will continue on their way happily oblivious to the line of cars (or bikes) behind them. Oddly enough, most of these have Florida plates.. or ride Harleys as those of you at the last Georgia rally could attest to. The worst offenders are the 15 mph in the curves/70 mph in the straights.. now these people should be dragged from their vehicles and shot. It's the same thing I face going to and from work.. I have however come up with a plan that would aleviate some of the stress involved with slow movers in the main flow of traffic but could create other... well... problems in the process. My idea is that if you have 6 or more vehicles lined up behind you and nothing in front, the car behind you should have the option of pushing you off the road. If the car behind you decides not to engage the task at hand then they should drop back or pull over to allow another driver the opportunity to do so. Now I know this wouldn't work well in reality but it does my heart good to think of that possiblity as I run 15 mph below the speed limit on a straight, flat road. I mean, in a perfect world, it shouldn't take 45 minutes to drive 25 miles.... road rage?...naaah.. not me.

There is a method of dealing with some drivers that I call "malicious compliance..."
For example, I'm at a red light waiting my turn and this driver in a big sedan flicks a lit cigarette out the window and it lands on my tank against my chaps. So not wanting a criminal citation for taking someone's personal property I pick it up and politely return it into his back window onto his rear seat... still lit of course - I don’t smoke so am not quipped with an ash tray on my BA.
And, of course, if I tossed it on the ground I'd get a citation for littering.
Be careful out there!

Good move Mike. Just wondering if anyone else has ever been trying to turn right from- say, a parking lot that has 2 lanes exiting it onto a busy st.and the cage in front is turning LEFT from the right hand lane? Now I try not to get ill but that lack of regard for who's behind you will make me grip the wheel(or grips) a little "louder".
