I want something with a nice rumble but not too loud. I like the look of the long slash cut pipes like the Bubs, Staintune and Speciality Spares. If you guys had a choice in a long slash cut pipe what would you get.

Love my Specialty Spares, wish I'd have bought them last year. (long cannons on my bike)

This has been asked time and time again. What's you favorite flavor? It is a very subjective thing. Try to listen to all the long slash cust first before you buy. There are several others long slash cuts as well: Drill your stockers, TOR longs, Sceptres, Thunderbike, Epco, JC Whitney to name a few. If you're coming to Georgia I would ponder to say there will be every pipe made there so you can do a good side by side comparison. Everyone will give you a different answer, usually what they have, but again it is subjective to each person's individual tastes. Me, I love my Thunderbike pipes and would have bought Bubs if they were available at the time too. I took my heat shields off and they look a lot nicer I think too. Even the Harley guys were smiling and nodding their heads in unison when they were checking them out the other day.

I'm happy with my Epcos. They're a bit loud, but not enough to collect tickets. They have the sort of rumbling snarling growl that was the trademark sound of the old 650.

I have the TOR shorties. When I had them put on I was dissapointed as toythe sound. They were too quiet. After about 2000 miles they got louder. Just enough so that the neighbors don't complain.(Like I would care, anyway!)

Dinqua: I'm ready to add a few decibels to my scoot. Tell me about your Thunderbike pipes...I thought you had the modified speedy pipes? I followed your carb re-jetting program, which turned out great, and was thinking about tackling your exhaust modifications. I want that 327 chevy glass pack sound! Thanks

Then you'll need to but a Chevy with a 327 in her. I got the Thunderbike pipes when I was dicking around with my Mikuni carbs. Long story... Anyway, the T'Pipes sound great. They are not loud, until you whack em. Then they wake up. BIG difference in RPM/volume with them. Oh, and they feel good. You need to go out and listen to as many pipes as you can, and ride them if possible. There is a big difference in all of them and the possible setups.

I'll toss in another vote for Specialty Spares! Fantastic pipes! I was going to get epcos, but decided I wanted chrome instead of stainless.
The advice above is best - try to atleast hear some in person if you can.

I might as well toss in a vote for my scepters. I've heard the specialty spares and they sound great, but they don't have the scepters rumble. The Scepters are a bit on the loud side, but the build quality and polish are amazing.
Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

Staintune.... the sound is beautiful, but not obnoxiously loud. Also, the quality is unsurpassed.

I'm with Grump, my TOR's (long) were fine for a while and I was reluctant to go louder. The SS pipes are definitely as loud as I'd want on my bike. Of course, given the weather, I have no clue how comfortable they will be on a long haul. Hopefully I won't tire of their louder sound on long trips.

...and that is why I have Epcos. Long or short trips, they are loud without being annoying. I'd heard Bubs, SS, and Sceptres before making my decision. Bubs & Sceptres, way too loud. SS pipes are actually pretty close to Epcos in sound but I like the looks of the Epcos more.

I'll have to give my vote to the Thunderbike pipes, nice rumble at idle and not as loud as my TOR's were. Excellent quality.

You are likely more undecided now then before with all these reviews. Bushwacker Beavis bought a set of Bubs and I was quite inpressed with them when I rode along side. On mine I was so undecided that my thoughts were go cheap and run around with others that had made changes before making a final choice. I went with $130 a pair of 32 inch from JC Whitney thinking well I can run with something besides the sewing machine pipes. Now I won't part with them. I guess it's a personal thing when it comes to pipes. You gotta tough choice.

Thanks for the great advice. I'm leaning toward the Speciality Spares and Thunderbikes but I'm going to try and listen to some of them before I choose. Great Bay Cycle in Dover, NH has Thursday night RAT rides. I probably go to a couple to see if any of the locals riders have some the others mentioned.

fishercat - just realize as soon as you hear the pipes you like, you will hear this strange sucking sound coming from your pocket.

Hmm, that is interesting. My TOR's were about half as loud as my Specialty Spares Long Cannons.

Not looking to be too loud, I ordered the Thunderbike pipes, still waiting, patiently, for them to arrive, the good news? The exchange rate went down since I ordered them...... let you know how I like 'em soon, (i hope)......

My Bubs sound great... Nice low rumble, healthy. Harley guys are amazed at the sound... Less money than the Thunderpipes.

I have received a number of positive comments from non-bikers about the Specialty Spares slash cannons I put on. A specific comment from a friend; "I have to admit, they sound very nice."
I also like the lower cost but also wonder if i'll need ear plugs w/my helmet on longer runs.

dmillikan: The SS pipes aren't that loud, to my ears. I rode with my skid lid last night and don't anticipate any problems. 65 degrees at night here in MD - woo-hoo!

I guess that eliminates the Epcos then, they sound more like a 340 sixpak.

My Speedmaster has close to 5000 miles on it and I will get new pipes and the freak during my 6000 mile service. The dealer recommended D&D which has not been mentioned. How does D & D compare with the above mentioned products.

I would start with this: Pull your snorkels on your air intake and drop in a uni filter - then do 130 mains, stock pilots, TBS needles. Then see how it runs!
Or, just wait a little bit - I'll be reporting back on this setup in about a week.
