I believe i have found the problem. The front wheel bearing is fitzed. But if the bearing is like all other triumph parts i've tried to get at the dealers around here, it won't be in stock. (waiting till the open to find out, but sure they won't have it) So does anyone know of another bearing i can get that will work.....honda, kawi, etc? I'm in the L.A. area if anyone know of a replacment i can find locally.

That would be a great idea for the Tech Vault! Numbers for all the bearings, relays, bulbs, etc on the bike. As we buy them we just submit the numbers to the tech vault so the next guy can just look them up.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

We have parts cross reference in there already. Some threads in the Vault will not show up unless you go to the bottom of the main Tech Vault page and change the 'Show' pulldown to 'from all dates' and then clicking on Change. The default is 3 months.

This is due to inactivity in that particular thread for more than 3 months.

I made this information a sticky in the Tech Vault...

For the tech vault......just as Grzegorz said. went to triumph dealer 60 miles away after being told they have them only to find the parts guy made a mistake. After a short period of letting off staem i asked if there was a bearing house close. They said a mile away. Went there and showed them the wheel, he looked at the number and retrieved them from stock at exactly 1/2 the cost of the triumph bearings.

And for the tech vault, the part number would be....?

Dale,
Read your post earlier and kept debating on whether to say anything or not. I mean you said the bearing(s) were bad so guess it's good to replace them but I have had my front end apart twice now. The bearings as far as I can tell are perfectly fine... I for the life of me don't know how a bearing would cause a cyclical vibe that can be stopped by changing gears or disengaging the clutch.
I picked up oil and filter in preparation to pull the side cover off.... the reason I haven't yet is well, unless something falls out in my hand or is OBVIOUSLY broken I don't know what I am looking at/for. Are you that sure that it's not coming from the engine instead of somewhere else? I'm not.... in fact I'm ready to put money on there is something amiss clutch/transmission wise. Give it to me straight dood, are you afraid to pull the side cover off? I am.... pretty much cuz I don't know what I'm doing and it freaks me out a bit.

Steve

and oh..... somewhere I saw that Moe mentioned my jingle sound, it's been found through all the searching for the vibe. I have a cracked weld on the heat shield on the lower part of the header.

well, ya gotta figure if you turn a bearing and it makes a grinding feel, it's toast. So naturally i felt that had to be it since it's the only thing i found so far thats bad, and about the only thing i haven't check aside from engine internals is the paint job. I was so sure that was it i spent the whole day doing this. Theres nothing left but internals that i can think of. On a side note the vibes do seem to have lessened. Maybe it is a tire and it's falling into place as it wears, who knows. As for pulling the cover, my instincts tell me i'm just gonna go thru all that for nothing and probably end up with a leaky cover to boot. I'll ride it for weeks in hopes it subsides before i'd do that because i believe it would likely be a tire long before the clutch or tranny. Unfortunatly if a tire is bad theres no way to know since they check out fine when i do a runout on them. I can't just send them back and say i think one of the tires you sold me is bad and i want exchanges. I'm so burned out i don't care much any more. the list of things i've done is mind boggling.

Pat......i don't know the number but it's on the old ones out in the garage if you want me to post it. But the point wasn't the number but to let people like me who never dealt with bearings before that they can just take the bearing or wheel with the bearing in it to any bearing house and show it to them for a replacement.

Take a close look at the speedometer drive. It could be the problem. Also, the speedo drive has been known to kill the left bearing.

Very good guess GB, but i already did. I suspected it because it felt grindy when i was turning it to fit it back on. but when i pushed the sleeve with the notches back in it was then ok. I ended up taking that sleeve of and inspecting it and pushing the grease back down in. I also rode w/o the cable connected. (i know what you're gonna say ) It's apparently not the problem. But very good thinking. You definatly been thinkin this out! Thanks.

Today i'm going to do a few things and then just leave it. I'll check the swingarm torque, change the pilots to 45's, (too big but will tell me whether thats where the prob lies) and if that doesn't help, change the oil and look for contamination or traces of bearing/gear failure.
