Brothers and sisters of Nickel Mines,Pa. my prayers are with you.
When will this violence stop!
If you want to take your life be a man and do it.
But please, please stop killing our children because you are afraid to die alone or you want to make the 6:00 pm news.
another school shooting

Why does these tragedies always seem to happen in 2's and 3's? I am a firm believer that the media is somewhat to blame. Although, I know they didn't pull the trigger. Some news doesn't need to be broadcasted with the fear that it may give some whacko an idea. Hence the tragedy in Colorado last week. I don't watch the news. Or at least at a very minimal. Seems the best ratings are captured by senseless killing and idiots commiting crimes just to draw media attention. I prefer to live in my little own corner of the world, protect my beliefs and contribute to my family and society. The media in my opinion has taken "Freedom of the Press" way past it's unwritten boundries. Although, these crimes have been going on since the dawn of civilation. These past 15-20 years since cable and Satelite TV have evolved, access to world and local news is easily accessable. Just my thoughts. It really is heartbreaking, especially with 2 children of my own in that age bracket. My prayers are also out to the familes and victims.

I know what you're hinting at, but don't blame the media. Blame or responsibility for an action lies solely on the person who carries out the deed - good or bad.

Guns aren't responsible for murder, alcohol isn't responsible for traffic fatalities, drugs aren't responsible for overdoses, an occassion of abuse 20 years ago isn't responsible for an abuse today, and the media isn't responsible for current events. The only point of blame is the asshat perp.

Just heard on WFUV (New York) that two more kids have died of their injuries.
Truly terrible.

Yeah, your exactly right. But 3 separate shootings within a weeks time has me asking myself " how could this be avoided?" I may be jumping to conclusions, but there are other instances I was also refering too. It's demoralizing to see such horrific events take place. Goto focus on the good things I suppose.

Part of the problem is that nothing sells like bad news. If they ran the 50 stories of the old ladies helped to cross the street and the lost kids brought home by concerned citizens. If that happened once in a while, people would begin to believe that was how to behave. Instead the bad stuff becomes the percieved norm and people believe that they should live like vicious pack animals with little regard for consequence. So, perhaps the media plays a bigger role than I previously let on.

I'll buy that. My thoughts exactly. I sometimes have difficulty trying to get my point across.

Weather or not the the way the news media reports tragedys leads to copycats can be debated forever. What disgusts me is how the media, in particular hollywood and the major tv networks use horriffic events to make a buck. and do so in the guise of telling the "true story" and educating the public.

What a horrible tragedy.
The Amish are probably the most gentle, peaceful, "mind
you're own business" people on the planet. They know how to
live off the land, and go their own way.
My prayers are with them,
Uncle Charlie

Nope Barry. You were right the first time.

The TWO most base of human emotions...fear and sex...will always sell the most number of papers and garner the highest television ratings.

I mean , when was the last time any of us were transfixed to the ol' boob tube when some "talking head" was voiceing opinions about reforming the tax codes or offering ideas about how to gain some semblence of sanity in campaign financing?

And regarding these recent rash of murder sprees....unfortunately for the Media, the ONLY THING these sad stories lack is that some "celebrity"(gee...maybe somebody like Paris Hilton???!!!) wasn't somehow involved in them.

THEN, the news organization could call them the "Crime Of The Century", and John Q. would eat it up.

Now MY theory, for what it's worth(probably not much), about these insane acts:
Sick people like these murderers, were probably dropped on their heads by uncaring or clueless parents YEARS AGO.

Adey I heard that report on FUV today too (except I was hearing it in the air, not on the computer ). The hospital official said he was amazed at how little the rest of the Amish community asked of them, they knew the folks were doing all they could for their kids. I think that speeks highly of their character, and magnifies the tragedy of the situation. Aparently that school was just the "most convenient" for that guy to get to in order to make whatever point he was making...

Well, as if this whole thing was horrible enough, the Phelps idiots who have been protesting the funerals of servicemen have said they will be showing up tomorrow at the funerals of the little girls who were executed to protest at their funeral!! Can you believe that?! If ever there were a time for God to strike down someone with a lightning bolt, I can't think of a better one!

I read how the perpetrator in Penn. planned for a "seige" and intended to sexually molest the girls he took hostage. My stomach hasn't stopped turning since I read about the "supplies" he brought in with him. ( I have a teenaged daughter.) Beyond comprehension how someone can be so broken and full of evil. One of the many questions I plan to ask God when I get a personal audience with Him/Her.

I sit with Pipedr on the personal accountability issue.

I think the media reflects the soul sickness of elements in society, as well as it more rarely broadcasts the heroic or selfless acts that are also part of human nature. The Mother Thereas of the world aren't in it for the airplay or tax deductions, don't care about fame or "infamy" so they just don't as oten make it to the nightly news. They're too busy doing the right thing.

How I (attempt to) stay sane after witnessing these horrific stories: I ask myself every day- what am I doing to make the world ( or my corner in it, as Kerby said) a better, healthier place, where am I stepping out of my little comfort zone to stand for what's right? If I'm not part of the solution in some committed way, then I'm part of the problem. Generativity vs. Despair.

Why, for God's sake???
Is it just because they know the media circus will no doubt be there?

Let these poor kids rest.

Even scarier is how this completely sick and sadistic ba$t#rd can be so depraved yet convince everyone around him that he is such a good guy and great father! Well, I've been ticked off enough listening to the garbage about this group, this finally "pushed" me to join PGR, even though they haven't been requested to be at the funerals of these kids!
