On a Rocket forum!

"I know many have been awaiting the 1300cc Speedmaster... Heard today that it is not going to look anything like the Speedmaster as we now know it... Get this! It will have a liquid cooled R3 type inline engine reduced to two cylinders with a higher compression ratio than the R3... Its HP may come in around 110-130... It will have the R3 platform (frame) and shaft drive... Not sure what the finished bike & tank will look like... Sounds like son of R3.... Still might appear this model year.... "

Where are the Mythbusters when you need them?
Will these rumors never end!!
I just received the Fall Torque with the 2007 models. No large America or Speedmaster except for the America 865cc. If something new comes out it's at least a year away so why torture us with these urban myths.

Nope.
BUT!!!
I got it from a good source (Some old guy at Hooters in Las Vegas)
that the engine will be backwards and based on the original
68 650 engine!!
WTF?
If everyone else can start rumors, I may as well join in, eh?

Saturday I talked to the gal at my dealership that went to the dealer meetings in Florida. There was no mention about a larger cruiser or anything with any motor that does not already exist. The only confirmation of any rumor at all was the Rocket III CX, a full touring bagger Rocket for 2008.

Supporting Simonr's rumor, this from a bike web site in Australia...

Triumph is said to be testing a 1530cc parallel-twin cruiser for the crucial US market, aimed at filling the gap between the 800cc Bonneville America and the 2.3 litre Rocket 3.
The as yet unnamed new bike's engine will be a liquid cooled,DOHC,eight valve parallel=twin, and is understood to use two 101.6mm x 94.3mm cylinders from the Rocket 3 engine, rotated 90 degrees to be mounted across the frame.
The engine will also have a 270-degree crankshaft throw-crucial for the American cruiser customer at which the model will be targeted-as well as a five speed gearbox and shaft final drive.
The beefed up Bonneville wont hit showrooms until 2007,by which time, its rumoured,Triumph will have released a touring version of the Rocket 3 with luggage and a screen.
Also due from Hinckley is a 1050cc revamp of its 955i Daytona sportsbike, using the long stroke engine from the Sprint ST and Speed Triple.
Triumph is finalising its new three cylinder 680cc Daytona sportsbike, and working on a Speed Triple version to replace the Speed Four nakedbike, plus a Bonneville Street Scrambler.
Both the 680 Daytona and Bonneville Street Scrambler are to go on sale in Australia in mid- 2006"

Well the motor sure will look better in that direction!
Why go shaft? Belt drive is so much lighter, simpler and gives the look Americans like.

I was reading this article on Motorcycle Cruiser.com about the Neander 1400 Turbo Diesel Motorcycle and about midway down is this sentence:

"... masquerading at a swift glance as an American-style cruiser with a big parallel-twin motor that could easily resemble Triumph's forthcoming 1500cc custom..."

Make of that what you will...

Well fellas....I don't know if it would look "funny" per se,
but if those boys at Hinckley DO happen to market something like that in the future...(which BTW, I kind'a doubt, as most reports from Blighty's Midlands have the coming shaft-driven "mystery bike" as a traditional "transverse", not a "longitudinal" twin)...well, I've already got the perfect name for it: The Triumph SUNBEAM S7/8.

Because, that now defunct british marque of the same name marketed a bike back in the Fifties with that exact kind of layout.(yep, it was shaft-driven also)

And to tell ya the truth, I(for some strange reason) always kind'a thought it was a rather interesting bike, and believe it or not, I also thought it a pretty decent lookin' thing too.

Go figure!

Cheers,
Dwight

I was spreading a tale at the Nor'East that includes a 1500cc parallel twin in the Speedie frame with design input and accessories being developed by none other than OCC (think Arlen Ness and Victory). Mark this one down.

If it comes to fruition, we can even discuss them in the Other Bikes forum!!!

With water cooling, shaft drive, EFI, and probably looking like a bug; it is as sure as the sun rising NOT a SM or BA.....

Sure enough - more like Rocket Junior.
A twin turned sideways? I'll reserve opinion till I see it but won't be holding my breath.

I interpreted the orientation of that motor to be like ours - parallel twin style not the Rocket III in-line style.

Yeah SURE Brummie!

And I suppose if Adm. Nelson were still around, HE'D ride a (HMS) VICTORY, huh?!

Though, the valiant Admiral would have had to have that Minnesota company make him an special automatic version, o' course.

(no left arm to work the clutch...remember?!)

Cheers,
